REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS Timing Gear Cover Removal

Do not attempt to remove timing gear cover without removing oil pan. Doing so may result in damage to the isolating oil pan gasket. Refer to Figure 143. 1. Remove front engine mount pedestal (4) by removing six retaining capscrews (7 and 8). 2. Remove cover (11) by removing mounting nuts (9) and washers (10). Scrape any remaining gasket material from cover. 3. If not already done, remove the injection pump timing cover (13) by removing the mounting capscrews (1 and 12). Discard O-ring (2). 4. Remove remaining mounting capscrews (12) from timing gear cover (3).
Do not damage the timing indicator (5) when removing timing gear cover. 5. Remove timing gear cover. It will be necessary to pry the cover from the engine block. Be careful not to damage cover or block while using sharp tools around machined surfaces.
