Mounting Engine in Stand
As discussed earlier, with the starter motor, starter magnetic relay, injection pump shutdown solenoid and filters all removed, it is good time to steam clean the engine before mounting in the stand. This will allow access to the entire engine without interference from the engine stand.
The engine weighs approximately 2,525 lbs. (1145 kg). Stay out from under the engine when it is being lifted. Failure of the lifting device could result in serious injury or death. Make sure to use lifting equipment that is rated to at least 3,000 lbs. capacity.
Engine stand, Kent-Moore tool number J 29109, and adapter plate J 38048, are recommended to safely support the engine during service procedures.
Avoid using an engine stand that supports the engine on the oil pan rail while the oil pan is still installed. Damage to the oil pan, pan gasket or the isolators may result. If this type of stand must be used and the oil pan is to remain installed, support the engine on the pads provided at each corner of the cylinder block as shown in Figure 61.
