REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS
r If the gauge block is too high, it may indicate that there are two gaskets installed under the nozzle holder, or the nozzle holder has not been fully inserted.
r If a gauge block is not available, measure the distance from the top of the cylinder head to the top of the nozzle holder. The nominal measurement should be 0.564 inch (14.326 mm). 311
7.Insert r If the gauge block is below level, it may indicate that the gasket was omitted.
8.Lubricate the threads of the retaining plug and install in position. Torque to 45 lb-ft (61 N•m) using torque wrench J 24407, or equivalent. Refer to Figure 312. 312

Repair Instructions
Valve Cover Installation
The valve cover requires a strip-type seal valve cover gasket, 51 inches (130 cm) in length. Sealing compounds are not necessary.
Installation
Refer to Figure 313.
1.Install a seal strip (2) in the valve cover seal groove (3) of the valve cover (1).
a.Thoroughly clean the gasket contact surface.
b.Install one end of valve cover gasket into seal groove (inboard side) approximately 1/4 inch (6.4 mm) from the end of the groove.

c.Guide the seal strip into the groove around the circumference of the valve cover. Complete installation and overlap at the starting point approximately 1/4 inch (6.4 mm) from the end of the groove.
2.Position the valve covers on the cylinder heads.
3.Lubricate threads of the capscrews and secure the valve covers with the lubricated capscrews. Torque capscrews to 16 lb-ft (22 N•m).
Fuel Injection Pump Installation
INSTALLATION
To install the fuel injection pump:
1.Rotate the engine in the direction of normal rotation (clockwise) bringing up the No. 1 piston on the compression stroke and alignment of the timing indicator is set to desired timing.

2.Install the injection pump/hub assembly over the mounting studs and move the pump forward until the pump mounting surface contacts the block.
Be careful not to damage the injection pump O-ring during injection pump installation.
3.Install the washers and nuts to all mounting studs and check that the pump mounting surface is flush with the block. 314
