SAE MESSAGE DESCRIPTIONS COMMUNICATION STANDARDS V-MAC II communicates with other devices, including diagnostic tools, in compliance with SAE J 1587 and J 1708 Communication Standards. These standards define the method by which various electronic devices can communicate with one another. When the truck leaves the factory, V-MAC II is usually the only module using the serial communication line. In some cases a truck may
also leave with an ABS/ATC or an automatic transmission controller. However, many other devices can be connected to the serial communication line in the aftermarket. Some diagnostic tools will not only display the messages sent out by V-MAC II, but by these other devices as well. The following table is provided for your convenience. It lists message types that are most likely to be available on the serial line if aftermarket devices are installed. For a complete list, contact the Society of Automotive Engineers.
