Electronic options include strain channels for connecting extensometers and other transducers, and analog outputs for chart recorders, plotters, data loggers etc. The expansion channel module provides four or eight additional channels for data acquisition and control.
Principle of Operation Some applications may require direct strain measurement from the specimen or load/strain control. Sensor conditioner cards may be added to the 5900 Series and these are directly compatible with Instron’s strain gauge extensometers and LVDTs, as well as devices with +/- 10V DC output. The 5900 Series system can take up to two additional (optional) sensor conditioning cards as standard but this can be considerably increased by the addition of the expansion channel module. This provides signal conditioning and calibration for either four or eight additional transducers which may be used for control as well as data acquisition. An analog output and digital I/O card is also available, allowing connection of analog chart recorders, plotters or data loggers.
