SELECTING THE RIGHT GRIPS AND JAW FACES
Shoulder and Threaded End Specimen Grips
These grips are designed specifically for specimens that feature threaded or shoulder ends. They are very simple in design as well as compact and easy to use. The purely mechanical operation and solid steel construction of all parts ensure durability while requiring minimal maintenance.
• Type of loading: Static, tension
• Specimen material: Wide variety of metals, including, but not limited to steel, cast iron, aluminum, titanium, and brass
• Specimen types: Machined, shoulder end specimens and machined, threaded end specimens

Lever Action Grips
The lever action grips provide the ideal means to hold single fiber specimens and very fine wire. The grips are simple, lightweight and symmetrical in design. The rubber-coated grip faces are mounted on steel pins so that one face is free to swivel on a horizontal axis and the other on a vertical axis. This action allows self-alignment that compensates for variations in specimen thickness. The grip is designed to minimize the incidence of jaw breakage through clamping adjustment and free pivoting of the faces. Also, the lower grip can be mounted horizontally with an offset mounting bracket, to allow a pre-tension weight to hang on the specimen.
• Type of loading: Tensile, cyclic, static, tension-tension tests (not suitable for high-cycle fatigue tests)
• Specimen material: Fine wires and filaments
• Specimen shapes: Round and flat specimens with or without shoulder tab ends
Self-Tightening Grips
Self-tightening grips are primarily designed for the testing of elastomeric and other flexible materials exhibiting a large reduction in cross section area under load. They provide excellent testing accuracy and positive non-slip gripping action, and are quick and simple to use.

• Type of loading: Tensile, static, tension cyclic tests (not suitable for high-cycle fatigue tests)
• Specimen material: Thin sheets, films, flexible plastic and elastomers
• Specimen shapes: Flat specimen with or without shoulder tab ends
