SATEC™ SERIES LOAD CELLS
Compatible with Static Dual- and Single-Test Space Hydraulic Test Systems, and SATEC Classic EM Test Systems (T Series, EMF Series and UD Series)
Available in several capacities, lower capacity load cells extend the calibrated range of the test frame. Regardless of whether the frame is manufactured by Instron®, SATEC, United, Tinius-Olsen, or another other manufacturer, adaptation can be supplied for the load cell. In most cases, the load cell can be adapted and configured for use in both tension and compression, though some instances and mounting locations will limit the cell to single direction use.
When ordered for use with Instron controllers that have self-identification/selfcalibration features (such as the 5500, I-Series, 5800, 8800 and 5900 controller series), it is necessary to either purchase field service or on-site calibration.
Principle of Operation
Load cells convert the applied force to an electrical signal that is representative of the force applied to the specimen. When testing smaller specimens or a variety of materials requiring varying forces, low capacity cells can be added to increase the operating range of the machine. Adding a low range cell will increase the available resolution of the force measuring transducer allowing for a lower calibrated reading.
The upper mounting for the load cell depends on the frame, but can be supplied to use the cell as the 1) main load cell, or as a 2) secondary low range cell that piggybacks to the main cell. The type of mounting must be specified at the time of order.
The standard series low profile cells are applicable for use on static hydraulic frames as well as static screw driven frames. The mounting supplied allows mounting the load cell on the underside of the adjustable crosshead. When mounting on a static dual-test space hydraulic frame, a stud is supplied that passes through the crosshead into both the tension and compression spaces. This allows accessories to be attached to the cell so it can be used both in compression and tension. For single direction use, the load cell will be mounted in the appropriate test area.
