LOAD CELLS FOR STATIC APPLICATIONS

Instron® static load cells are an integral part of the force measurement system, and are designed and manufactured specifically for use in materials testing machines. They maintain excellent alignment and are resistant to offset loading throughout the test, even with large specimens. The cells can withstand up to 150% of rated capacity without zero shift. Interchangeability, along with transducer recognition and electrical calibration makes the load cells easy to use.

A number of designs are available suitable for specific test instruments or applications.

Principle of Operation

Instron load cells are precision force transducers featuring a full bridge of strain gauges bonded to a high stiffness elastic element. When subjected to a force, the electrical resistance of the gauges changes in proportion to the applied force, thus changing the output signal. This signal is then conditioned by the system electronics for display and data acquisition in accordance with international standards. The high axial stiffness reduces stored energy that can transfer to the specimen at yield or at break, giving false values.

Increased lateral stiffness reduces measurement errors from off-axis loading, commonly found when performing compression tests or where specimens fail by tearing.

Our range of load cells is designed to perform static tests in tension, compression and reverse stress modes, reducing the need to change cells frequently and providing the widest possible applications coverage.

Application Range

• All load cells comply with the highest applicable testing standards, including ISO 7500-1 and ASTM E4.
