COD gauges are designed for use with the range of fracture mechanics testing accessories developed by Instron and suitable for use with all Instron systems. They provide for testing a wide range of specimens, including compact tension (CT) and bend specimens. The COD gauges can be used for both crack propagation and fracture toughness types of test. ®
Principle of Operation The COD gauge gives a precise indication of the relative displacement of two accurately located knife-edges, which span the starter notch of the specimen. These lightweight gauges are self-supporting during testing, and self-release on specimen failure. The rugged casing provides protection from mechanical damage.
