15.4.3 Universal drive shaft Danger! Any work under the chocked up swather may only be carried out if the machine has been properly secured. – Only use suitable supports or chocks. – See Prop stand, page 10. Work on the drive shaft may only be carried out with the PTO disengaged and the engine switched off. – Switch off the engine! – Remove the ignition key. The drive shaft must be serviced according to the operator's manual of the drive shaft manufacturer (see manufacturer's operating manual). Observe the manufacturer's safety instructions! General information on universal drive shafts Danger! Never operate the drive shaft without or with damaged guards. – Mount the joint guards and protective tubes. – Secure the guards against rotation. – Only use drive shafts that are in perfect technical condition. Damaged or missing guard tubes, guard cones, or safety chains must be replaced immediately. Protect the drive shafts from weather influences. At the end of the working season, thoroughly clean and grease all parts of the drive shaft. If used in winter, the protective tubes must be greased to prevent them freezing up. After any lengthy period of non-use, the drive shaft must be lubricated and its function checked before operation. Lubrication intervals – see Lubricating chart, page 177. Lubricants – see Lubricants chart, page 148.
