Troubleshooting — Hydraulic System Hydraulic System NOTE: Also see “Work Hydraulics Troubleshooting” on page 103 and “Hydraulics Troubleshooting Diagnostic Flow Charts” on page 107.
Problem Hydraulics do not work or work only at a low performance level
Attachment tilts down with tilt control in neutral
Lift arm does not raise/lower
Attachment tilt not working; Lift arm works properly 50940008/AP0311
Possible Cause
Corrective Action
Low hydraulic fluid level
Add hydraulic fluid
Hydraulic fluid is not warm
Allow longer warm-up
Engine to pump coupling or hydraulic pump damaged
Check hydraulic system pressures. Check pump coupler for wear. inspect hydraulic pump for wear; analyze hydraulic oil sample. Repair/replace as necessary
Pressure limiting valves set too low or damaged
Check hydraulic system pressures. inspect pressure limiting valve. Repair/replace as necessary
Hydraulic cylinder damaged
Disassemble cylinder and inspect for wear/damage parts. Repair/replace as necessary. Replace seals
Control valve damaged
Inspect control valve. Repair/ replace as necessary. Replace seals.
Engine speed is too low
Adjust engine speed. See “Accelerator pedal” on page 51 See “Hand throttle” on page 51
Dirty/restricted air filter(s)
Replace air filter(s)
Incorrect fuel grade
Change the fuel; see “Fluid Capacities/Lubricants” on page 11for proper fuel grade
Oil leaking past tilt cylinder seals (internal or external)
Remove cylinder. Repair/replace as necessary. Replace seals
Leaking hydraulic hoses, tubes or fittings between control valve and cylinders
Repair as required
Lift spool in control valve not actuated or leaking
Inspect control valve. Repair/ replace as necessary. Replace seals
Hydraulic oil leaking past cylinder piston seals
Remove cylinder. Repair/replace as necessary. Replace seals.
Tilt spool in control valve not actuated or leaking
Inspect control valve. Repair/ replace as necessary. Replace seals
