CHAPTER 11 — TROUBLESHOOTING

Engine

Engine does not turn overDrive direction switch in forward/ reverse

Place drive direction switch in neutral

Tripped circuit breakerReset circuit breaker

Blown fuseReplace fuse

Dead batteryCharge or replace battery

Auxiliary hydraulics control lever not in neutral (Applies only to early machines equipped with auxiliary hydraulics control lever).

Battery disconnect switch in the open position or malfunctioning

Place the auxiliary hydraulics control lever into the neutral position

Place the battery disconnect switch into the closed position. Repair or replace if necessary

Engine turns over but will not startEngine cranking speed too slowCheck battery and charge/ replace as necessary; tighten battery terminals. Check that engine oil is at operating temperature. On early machines equipped with an auxiliary hydraulics control lever, make sure the lever is in the neutral position.

Fuel tank emptyFill up the tank and vent the fuel system if necessary

Fuel filter plugged or restricted, paraffin separation in winter

Change the fuel filter; use winter grade diesel fuel

Fuel line leakageTighten all the threaded connections and clamps

Engine cranking speed too slowCheck battery and charge/ replace as necessary; tighten battery terminals

Glow plug module malfunctionCheck connection and voltage; replace as necessary

Fuel shut-off solenoid not energizingCheck electrical connections/ voltage to shut-off solenoid

Fuel filter restrictedReplace filter

Fuel pump malfunctionTroubleshoot fuel pump. See engine service manual. Replace if necessary
