Hydraulics — Steering Circuit Pressure Test

STEP 3

Disconnect the hose from the base of the cylinder.

STEP 4

IMPORTANT: Hydraulic oil loss may occur. Provide a means to catch oil where the hose was disconnected from the base of the cylinder.

With an assistant holding a container to catch oil at the point the hose was removed from the base of the cylinder, use the joystick to try to retract the cylinder farther. Only a small amount of oil, or no oil at all, should drain from the port at the base of the cylinder. Draining oil indicates worn seals and/or piston.

Steering Circuit Pressure Test

This test checks for correct steering circuit pressure.

NOTE: Incorrect steering circuit pressure may indicate other hydraulic system problems. Refer to “Hydraulics Troubleshooting Diagnostic Flow Charts” on page107.

STEP 1

Tilt the platform according to “Tilting the Platform” on page 61.

STEP 2

Insert a run tee (Mustang P/N 176526) in between the hydraulic hose and 90° fitting indicated in the figure at (A).

NOTE: A test fitting (Mustang P/N 50300055) can additionally be inserted to allow connecting a Mustang pressure test kit (Mustang P/N 184476).

IMPORTANT: Start with a pressure gauge rated for a higher pressure than required, and move to lowerpressure gauges as needed. Gauges will be damaged if the pressure exceeds the capacity of the gauge.

Connect a pressure gauge rated for 414 bar (6000 psi) to the test fitting.

STEP 3

Start the machine and allow it to warm to operating temperature.

STEP 4

Turn the steering in one direction all the way to the stop to dead-head the cylinder.
