EPROM/Microprocessor Removal/Replacement
Installation
Removal 1. Turn the key switch OFF and disconnect the battery connector.
1. Inspect the chip. Make sure there are no bent, broken or missing pins or other signs of physical damage. See Figure 7-139. 2. Make sure there is no corrosion on the firmware chip or socket. If present, remove and insert the chip (M11) several times using the “Removal” procedure.
Use correct precautions against electrostatic discharge. See “Static Precautions” on page 2-7.
Good
Failure to use approved EPROM Extraction Tool (P/N 950-032) may result in damage to the chip or socket.

2. Look at the circuit chip’s socket on the circuit board. Of the four slots in the corners of the socket, two diagonally opposite slots open into the chip cavity. These holes receive the prongs of the removal tool. 3. Insert the prongs of the extraction tool into the holes identified in step 2. Hold the tool straight up. See Figure 7-138. 4. Gently but firmly squeeze the jaws of the tool together. The prongs retract, lifting and loosening the chip from its socket. Do not rock or pull on the chip to release it.

3. Apply a thin bead of Nyogel (P/N 1180917/001) on the electrical contact surfaces of the sockets. 4. Notice the beveled corner and the arrow in the socket. Notice the beveled corner and the dot on the beveled edge of the chip. 5. Position the chip so the dot is aligned with the arrow on the socket and the beveled corner is aligned with the beveled corner of the socket. 6. Gently press the chip into the socket with your thumb. Make sure it is completely seated on all four edges. See Figure 7-140. and Figure 7-141. 7. Reconnect the battery connector and turn the key switch ON. Test the lift truck operation before returning to service.
