Wire Guidance Troubleshooting

To troubleshoot unsatisfactory performance of the wire guidance when no fault code is generated, follow these corrective actions and steps.

NOTE: In the following step, consult the battery manufacturer’s recommendations for the specific gravity. If unavailable, use the value stated in step 1.

1.Check the battery for an adequate charge. If the specific gravity is less than 1.145, replace or charge the battery. Adjust the BSOC cutout correctly.

2.Check for shorts to frame.

3.Check the static strap. Clean or replace as necessary.

4.Make sure both guidance sensors are mounted on the lift truck centerline with no physical damage.

5.Make sure the sensor cables are not connected backwards to the Guidance Manager.

6.Make sure the line driver is adjusted according to the manufacturer’s specifications. For Ra ymond line drivers, refer to PDSS-0051, Raymond Wire Guidance

7.Relearn the wire guidance frequency and offsets. See page3-9 and page3-10.

8.Make sure the heading angle and distance from wire settings are configured correctly. See “Guidance Parameter Setup” on page3-9.

9.Check for bent baselegs.

10.Make sure the load wheels are not binding.

11.Check for excessive play in the drive unit radial ring.

12.Make sure the steer motor is securely mounted to its gear reducer.

13.Make sure the steer motor gear reducer is not binding and its pinion gear is correctly engaging the drive unit.

1.Use the 9-pin serial cable to connect the laptop to the lift truck.

2.While in auto mode, drive the lift truck on the wire at full speed to the end of the aisle (at least 50 feet [15 meters]) and back forks-first to verify that the lift truck is guiding on the wire.

3.Without driving or moving the steering wheel, toggle the auto/manual switch from auto mode to manual mode and back to auto mode.

4.Drive the lift truck tractor-first at full speed on the wire to the end of the aisle (at

least 50 feet [15 meters]) and immediately drive back on the wire, forks-first, at least 50 feet (15 meters).

5.Switch to manual mode and drive off and away from the guide wire.

6.Using the FlashWare software program, go to the Wire Guidance Diagnostics menu.

a.At the main menu prompt, type d for diagnostics.

b.At the diagnostics menu prompt, type w for wire guidance.

7.Check the values for the parameters in the following table. See Figure5-5. If the lift truck shows higher va lues than listed in the table, perform the procedure for Wire Guidance Troubleshooting beginning on page5-15
