t Cross-curricular day English and Technology
On Friday, 24 January 2020, the class 4MaB had a cross-curricular day (involving the two subjects Technology and English), which was organised by Ms Taschler, Mr Weber and Mr Hofmann. The aim of this cross-curricular day was that of learning relevant technical vocabulary, describing several machines, which can be found in the school’s workshop, in English and presenting the results to the pupils of class 3 MaC. The following machines were described: the turning machine, the CNC turning machine, the milling machine,
the drilling machine and arc welding. Below you can read two examples, a short description of the milling machine and the CNC turning machine.
processed by the machine. Due to the various characteristics and applications of milling, it is one of the most widely used manufacturing processes.
Milling is a cutting process for the production of work pieces. This is done with a tool that has several geometrically defined cutting edges. During milling, the milling tool rotates at high speed around its own axis and its cutting edges remove material. Any shape can be milled, including engine housings, turbine blades, etc. In order to manufacture these parts, a CNC programme is written, which is then automatically

Crowdfunding The practice of funding a project The term crowdfunding is a relatively recent term, which has only been in use for a few years now. The term was coined by Jeff Howe in a Wired article.
It comes from the conjunction of the English words crowd (=Menschenmenge) and funding (=Finanzierung) and describes the practice of funding a pro-
ject or venture by raising small amounts of money from a large number of people, typically via the internet. Crowdfunding can be used to raise funds for a variety of private projects, innovative products, real estate, startups and many other businesses. Typically, a large number of people support a project financially and thus makes it possible. The project initiators present their ideas directly to the public to find as many bakers as possible. Individuals act as private lenders. Whether a project is realised or not is decided directly by the crowd and not, as traditionally, by banks or other institutions. See article „Biobazaar“, p. 21
