Annual: Trinity 2018

YEAR 10 Year 10 can be quite a tough year for students. There is an increased number of things going on in their life both at home and school, an increase in expectations, new pressures, balancing commitments and negotiating influences, which all create quite a challenging environment. But it is an environment that I am confident in saying, has led to growth, maturity and achievement in our Year 10 students this year. The focus in 2018 was on choice, responsibility and building on the foundation and work that was done last year; seeing their strength of character being put into practice to set themselves up for Years 11 and 12 – and beyond. It was very pleasing to see the number of boys who stepped up and took hold of the opportunities that were presented to them this year.

SOCIALS AND EVENTS Socials with Mercedes College This year, there were two social events with Mercedes College; the first was an afternoon tea at Mercedes, which was very well prepared by the girls and staff. The second was our dance social at Trinity. Both events were very successful and, once again, our thanks go to all the parents and helpers who contributed to both events. The Year 10 student social committee played a significant role in the organisation of the Term 3 dance social and are congratulated for their efforts. The students put a lot of effort into their outfits, which were based on ‘iconic movie characters’ and the Foley Centre was transformed into a Hollywood-themed dance hall. Thank you to all who contributed to making it a successful evening for all students.

The boys who were involved represented the College well and both events were very successful. TC Tour Guides At the Trinity College Open Day in May, 40 Year 10 students acted as tour guides to prospective families. Their manner and dedication to the task was central to the success of the event and they showcased with pride, the qualities we hope are fostered through a Trinity education. Year 6 Mentoring Inter-year group mentoring took place in the first part of Term 4, with 60–70 Year 10 students spending time with the Year 6 students, helping them transition through to the Secondary School. This involved some tours through the Secondary School, as well as building relationships during lunchtimes and small group discussions around what it is like to move up to Year 7. Both the Years 6 and 10 students gained a lot from the experience. The Year 10s did a fantastic job at getting alongside the Year 6 students to support them in their transition, with many of the Year 10 students then going on to become either Senior Ministers or Peer Ministers for 2019.

CHRISTIAN SERVICE AND FAITH FORMATION In Year 10, the Christian Service program is embedded into the Personal Development and Wellbeing (PDW) program. All Year 10 students spend one rotation of four weeks, one day per week, learning about their placement, then attending their placement and then reflecting on their experience. In addition to the Year 10 Masses throughout the year, opportunity for faith formation also came from the Emmaus retreat in Term 3. The boys go to a set location away from Trinity and spend the day reflecting on their

Socials with Iona Presentation College and Perth College Our Year 10 boys were also invited to socials with Iona Presentation College and Perth College during the year, which involved 30–40 boys participating in a river cruise with Iona students and then four weeks of dance lessons and a formal dance with Perth College students.
