2018 COLLEGE SENIOR BALL

Mr Clint Testa

After six months of preparations and construction, the 2018 Neverland Ball was held in a transformed Gibney Hall on 27 April, providing our Year 12s and their partners with a night they won’t be forgetting for a very long time.

Excitement was high from early in the evening, with guests arriving as early as 5.30pm – half an hour before the official start time. By the time the doors opened at 6.00pm, the Junior School carpark was packed with over 200 guests eager to be the first to witness the magnificent setting constructed by our hard-working Ball Committee.

The guests were transported from Wendy’s bedroom, through the night sky of London and into the Indian Village of Neverland. The canteen area had been transformed into a beautiful forest setting complete with teepees, a crocodile swamp and creeping vines. Guests were greeted by Captain Hook, Peter Pan himself, Tinkerbell and Tiger Lily – all of whom were swamped with requests for photos. Mocktails were served over the bar and by 6.45pm, the Indian Village was bursting at the seams.

Next stop for our ball guests was the Lost Boys’ treehouse, with lanterns illuminating a magical setting complete with a crackling fireplace, bookcase adorned with various trinkets from the forest, and the Lost Boys themselves. This abode led our guests into Gibney Hall, which was set alight by a ghost ship, which hung from the centre of the ceiling, lit up by fairy lights and surrounded by 300 stars and a glowing full moon. The tables were decorated with a treasure chest at their centre, filled with chocolate coins, bejeweled rings and pirate patches. For each lady, there was a personalised gift at their table setting f to keep and remind them of the night . in the same direction to achieve the desired result. She was ably supported by the rest of the ball executive: Mrs Stacey Kannis, Mrs Edwina Cottino, Mrs Anni Schelfout, Mrs Jane Gilbert, Mrs Tanya Pisano, Mrs Andrea Hogan, Mrs Dianne Hansen, Mrs Carol Crevacore, Mrs Kate Taylor, Mrs Mandy Ludovico and Mrs Belinda Paulet. These parents of our Year 12 students and their working parties put in countless hours throughout Term 1 and spent most of their holidays on campus bringing their vision to fruition. The end result was truly mind-blowing and I am in awe of the passion and commitment these parents put in to providing their sons with such an amazing experience.

Thank you also goes to Mrs Fiona Pagano and Mrs Caroline Ellison who controlled the back-of-house requirements for the night, guiding and supporting our Year 11 volunteers with their service responsibilities. Year 11 parents also helped out with the security and supervision needs for the evening and without all of these people, the night wouldn’t have run as smoothly as it did. Thank you also to the Parent Council, in particular Mr Leon Jennings and Mrs Michelle Rapkoch. You have been extremely generous with your time and support of this year’s planning and I’m sure the parents enjoyed their Parent Ball as much as the students enjoyed theirs.

And finally, thank you to the Maintenance staff of the College who regularly went above and beyond in helping our committee construct their vision. Everyone who contributed to creating the ball helped provide our boys with a night to remember and this is just another example of the strong TC Spirit that exists within Trinity College.

Grace was said by David Pham (12.8), followed by Jeremy Hansen’s (12.4) Head Boy address. Then the excitement in the room was further elevated when the dance floor was packed and pumping by 8.15pm. DJ Wazz had the crowd in the palm of his hand and it was only the serving of the main course that managed to get the guests from the dance floor. By the end of the night, everyone was suitably exhausted. It was so impressive to see everyone having such a great time with their friends and peers and it was also pleasing to note the chivalry most of our young men showed in looking after their partners for the evening.

All of this didn’t just happen over a couple of night’s planning. Our Ball Committee was hard at work from November 2017, devising the look and feel of the night based on outlandish vision and courageous ambition. A big thank you goes to Mrs Dorina Martelli who was the head ball coordinator and had the significant responsibility of keeping all the working parties pulling
