BASKETBALL
1ST V BASKETBALL
The 2018 Blackwood team had high ambitions after returning from the December pre-season tour of the United States. This two-week tour gave players the opportunity to play against highly-ranked teams in Southern California. Friendships, trust and cohesion were the key aims of the tour – these were very much strengthened by the experience.
The first challenge of the season was the match against Christ Church Grammar School and, given this was the first game back in Australia since the tour, it was obvious the boys had some new-found determination and dedication to succeed; resulting in any easy win over Christ Church.
Game two was a different story, as we faced the muchfancied Wesley College. After an outstanding first quarter, we faded away and didn’t put up the fight as usual Trinity teams would. Whether it was fatigue, complacency or just not our day, we went down comfortably and had to quickly move onto the next week.
The next two games were the highlights of the 2018 season. Much can be said about the fixtures against Hale School, followed by Aquinas College, but words cannot describe the atmosphere at each venue late in the game. Hale forced overtime with a long-range shot with eight seconds left and went on the win. The following week, Aquinas missed a chance late into game, giving Trinity a one-point win. The boys gave 100% in both games and it was a bittersweet fortnight of basketball. Knowing the Blackwood Cup was out of reach, the team still enjoyed the close victory against long-term rivals, Aquinas. The Trinity team split the last two games
with a win and a loss. Beating Guildford Grammar School at home was an outstanding way for our Year 12 players to enjoy their last home game in the Trinity Sports Centre. Unfortunately, the following week Scotch College was too good and were eventually crowned undefeated champions for 2018.
Most of the players will return in 2019 to give it their all, once again. The taste of close losses is still very much there and watching the Scotch team celebrate while holding the Cup will most certainly spur our boys to work even harder and, hopefully, enjoy a similar celebration in 2019.
Thank you to all boys who were involved in the 1st V program. They were a pleasure to coach and I know they are capable of achieving great success next season.

2ND V BASKETBALL
The 2nd V had a great start to the pre-season in Term 4. Trinity dominated the competition; the only loss being to Scotch by two points with several key players missing. The 2nd V were led by a strong group of Year 12s, most of whom had been playing together since Year 10. With the starting V all going on the USA tour in December, Trinity were primed for a big season.
