We easily accounted for Christ Church and Wesley in the first two rounds. Led by the inside presence and rebounding from Dylan Tierney (12.3) and Jai Davis (12.7), teams found it difficult to score; leading to blowout wins for Trinity. Luke Pellegrini (12.2) and Riley Sonneman-Smith (12.4) were dominating opposition guards each week. The strong all-round play from Zack Lane (12.4) on both ends of the court made life very difficult for opposing teams. Travelling and winning at Hale is never easy and the 2nd V played their best game of the season, producing a come-from-behind win that left Hale stunned. Russell Bong (12.6) piled on 16 of 32 points in the fourth quarter to blow the game wide open. The big comeback left us flat against Aquinas and while we easily accounted for Guildford, we lost another close game against Scotch to end the season. Trinity is in good hands, with a strong group of Year 11s coming through and looking forward to the next season.

9A BASKETBALL

It was a successful season for the 9A basketball team who finished with a four wins/two losses record. The highlight of the season was an away win against Aquinas. With the score close throughout the first three quarters, Chase Ridley (9.7) and Will Comerford (9.1) took over in the last quarter, which resulted in a 15-point win. There is a great deal of talent in this group and I look forward to watching their progress over the next couple of years.

8A BASKETBALL

The summer season of 2018 was one of difficult losses and hard-fought wins for the Year 8A team at Trinity College. A strong team was formed, building off the back of a successful Year 7 season with a few notable omissions from 2017. Ultimately, this was to be a challenge for the team and by the end of the season, they had comfortably covered the gaps that were present at the start.

The focus of the season was for the boys to work as a team and not a group of individual players. This was developed by addressing each player’s job and position in the squad. We soon learnt the benefits of this and began to start to play some structured and impressive basketball.

Our results were mixed throughout the season, with a win/loss record of four and two, starting with two very strong wins against Christ Church and Wesley. We learnt very quickly against Hale that the season was not going to go our own way after a convincing loss to a very impressive outfit. This provided us with an extra focus on our teamwork, as we did not feel we were any less skilled compared to Hale. A loss to Aquinas the following week took us back to the drawing board to address what needed to be done to improve. After a few strong training sessions and a strong focus again on how we play the game, the boys bounced back with a win against Guildford and then finished the season with another win against Scotch. By this time, the boys were playing their best basketball of the season, which was very pleasing to see and experience.

It was a very positive and educational 2018 season for all. I was particularly impressed with the development of all the players involved in the Year 8A basketball team for 2018 and look forward to a strong showing in Term 4 when, once again, we get the chance to showcase our talents.

A big thank you goes to the parents who supported us, the boys for their efforts and Mr Brett Silver for his advice and strategies.

YEAR 7 BASKETBALL

Year 7 students were given their first taste of Senior School PSA sport and it was clear Trinity basketball has a very bright future. With large numbers, the College could field seven teams in the Year 7 competition. Many of these teams experienced only one loss for the season and large winning margins were regular. The depth in Year 7 basketball is outstanding and the boys played with pride and a real determination to improve. Special mention goes to the former Trinity students who coached most of the Year 7 teams. Your commitment to the College basketball program is greatly appreciated. I congratulate all Year 7 players on a fantastic season and look forward to seeing them develop over the next few years.
