Football

Congratulations to all the Trinity football teams on their participation and achievements throughout the season. It has been a great year, with many highlights on and off the field.

The 1st XVIII football team’s season kicked off against Scotch College, with a hard-fought win by 29 points after having a strong second half. Round two resulted in a narrow loss to Guildford Grammar School, going down by 16 points in a contest that could have gone either way. A loss in the next round against Hale School, 63 points to 129, left the team on one win and two losses from their opening three games and some work to do to remain in contention for the Alcock Cup. Round four resulted in a defeat, going down 32 points to 83 points against a well-prepared Aquinas College team. The result in round five could not get the team back on the winners list and the team was defeated by 20 points against Wesley College. A comprehensive win in round six against Christ Church Grammar School by 43 points was followed by a bye in round seven that provided a chance for players to rest. The result in round eight could not back up the previous performance and the team was defeated by two points against Scotch College. A tightly fought win against Guildford Grammar School in round nine by one point placed Trinity an outright fourth on the ladder and within two games of third. A close game against Hale School in round ten resulted in a six point loss, followed by a loss by the undefeated Aquinas College. Round 12 against Wesley College resulted in a 15 point win. In the final round, the results went Trinity’s way with a two point win to cap off a season with five wins and registering a win over all but two teams in the competition. The TOBA Winter Sports Day was well represented by the Trinity football players and Old Boys who played an entertaining and, at times, skilful match. Congratulations to the Trinity 1st XVIII on winning the match.

Fundraising for the season was well supported by parents and the football community, with funds being raised for the operating of the Football Club through the sausage sizzle, morning tea and presentation night. Thank you to all parents and families who attended, volunteered and supported these events through their time, effort and energy. I look forward to these and other events in support of the Football Club continuing in the future.

Thank you to the parents and families of all players for their support throughout the season. Thanks go to all the coaches from Year 7 through to the 1st XVIII for all the time and commitment they have put into the football program. Head Coach, Mr Peter Oliver, was ably supported by assistants, Mr Andrew Jenkin and Mr Clint Testa. These three gentlemen put in countless hours of their time to develop, not just good footballers, but ‘good men’. We look forward now to the 2019 season with some anticipation that success may not be too far away. A big thank you also goes to all the coaches and managers from the 7Cs up to the 2nd XVIII.
