Firstly, a big thank you goes to the coaches, Mr Martin Tucker (’87) and Mr James Quin, for coaching us this season. We learnt some new skills and received some great strategy advice from you this season.

We also thank our parents for coming down and supporting the team and bringing down the oranges and lollies.

Thank you to the boys who played in the team this year. As a playing group we have all improved: learning from each other, supporting each other and celebrating our victories. The new starters to the playing group were welcomed. Some boys didn’t know how to play hockey at the start but got the hang of it quickly and became integral to the group.

Hockey had an excellent year, with some good wins and some great goals scored (including a very special tomahawk or two). Our backline – Brynley Boros (6W), Parker MacDonald (6B), Luke Chapman (5W) and Charlie Hampson (5W) – was the ‘TC wall’. The midfield, including Westlee Terrell (5B), Levi McGrath (5G) and Andre Adams (6B) delivered the ball forward with accuracy and our frontline, with Daniel Godfrey (5B), Jackson Theobald (6B), Hudson MacDonald (6W), Torrey Benness (6B) and Henry Gebauer (5G) proved outstanding strikers.

Well done boys, we are all excited about moving up to Middle School hockey next year. Go TC!

In the first game against Scotch College, I wasn’t sure what to expect until the kick whistle was blown. The ball was kicked by Scotch and received by Callum Bonwick (6B) – he then ran through everyone and scored the first try of many more to come. Unfortunately, things didn’t pan out the way we would have liked. The boys deserved a win that day, but Scotch were just too strong.

The backs did well at spreading the ball out wide and running the gaps and the forwards took good care of the rucks. But, of course, this wouldn’t have happened without the great coaching of Ben Pagano (’17) and Michael Ferrari (’16) and some of the senior boys who volunteered their time on Tuesday mornings and Thursday game days. Also, thank you to all the parents for coming down every game and supporting the boys. Mrs Lisa Webb and Mrs Astrid Bierer-Cooper get a special mention for without their constant supplies of lollies and drinks we might not have done so well.

Some of the highlights of the seasons were when Felix Cooper (5W) scored three kick returns in a row against Wesley College at their home game. Another highlight was when all our backline was sick on the day against Hale School but, with some of the boys from the ‘B’ team filling in, we brought home the win. We ended the season with five wins and five losses, which is amazing. I hope the Junior School team has another great season next year.
