JUNIOR SCHOOL FAITH EDUCATION CHAPLAIN AND LITURGIES Masses are a central part of our faith program in the Junior School. Fra Oscar leads the boys to be ‘M40s’ with his regular presence in the Junior School. Mrs Ann Clarke makes all our Masses special, leading the choir and music. Opportunities for worship and praise in the Junior School include the opening Mass and each class also hosts and prepares a Mass during the year. Holy Week was a major Term 1 event as we reached the end of our Lenten journey. Mrs Ann Clarke and Mr Bernard Le Tessier and classroom teachers prepared boys from all Junior School year levels to lead us through the Stations of the Cross through song and drama. This year classes could receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation with Fra Oscar in the Chapel. We finished the year with the Thanksgiving Mass, prepared by Mr Le Tessier.

MOTHER’S DAY MASS The Mother’s Day Mass was a memorable occasion organised by Ms Evelyn Temmen. Mothers shared their experiences and boys read beautiful reflections for their mothers.

Kids, which highlighted for the boys their ability to contribute to the wider community. They followed this up with a cake stall in Term 4 to raise funds for Brother Olly’s work. The Years 5 and 6 classes visited Aegis Rowethorpe aged care facility, Archbishop Goody House, Marist Lodge and Acacia Residential Homes as part of their outreach visits to seniors in our community. Unfair Day allowed the Junior School students to join their Senior School brothers in raising funds for the India Pilgrimage. A very successful cake stall was run by the student leaders and teachers. In our final term, boys and their families generously donate hampers for The Shopfront to distribute to homeless people in the community at Christmas. The Junior School community sincerely thanks Fra Oscar for his gentle and loving guidance throughout the year. Ms Evelyn Temmen Year 4 White Mr Bernard Le Tessier Year 5 White

YEAR 6 CONFIRMATION/LEADERSHIP RETREAT Year 6 teachers prepared the Leadership and Confirmation retreat held at Camp Kelly. Miss Natalie Kenny, Mr Tony Maxfield (’79) and Mr James Quin led the boys through liturgies, reflection, team games and personal challenges as part of their faith and leadership formation. Mr Luke Thompson, Mr John Lamborn (‘69), Mr Martin Tucker (’87) and Fra Oscar assisted with the camp and guided the boys in spiritual reflection. With many of the boys receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation through their parish sacramental programs, the retreat is an opportunity to link that theory into action.

The cake stall raised much-needed funds for Brother Olly

Many Year 4 boys received the Sacrament of Eucharist this year. The Year 4 teachers ensured the boys were well prepared through the Religious Education program in class. Special thanks to Mrs Joanne du Toit, Mr Reuben Brennan and Ms Evelyn Temmen for supporting the boys who took part in their own parish or the Cathedral sacramental programs.

CHRISTIAN SERVICE Boys in the Junior School have many opportunities to participate in Christian Service and to be Men for Others. This includes Project Compassion as the focus of mission donations in Term 1. The Archbishop’s LifeLink Appeal is supported in Term 2. Throughout the year, boys donate to the missions through their class mission box and enjoy the times their class has the ‘mission trophy’ for the week. The main beneficiary of the class missions is the India Pilgrimage. In Semester 1, Year 4 students visited Brother Olly’s Wheelchairs for
