Annual: Trinity 2016

Page 42

Year 12 It has been a special and memorable year for the Class of 2016, where an amazing group of young men has continued to demonstrate service for others, friendship and integrity as a central part of their lives. The year began with presentations to both students and parents by Ms Jane Genovese from Learning Fundamentals, who helped to start the academic year off well with study skills and tips for the boys. This has continued with presentations from universities, TISC and Ms Genovese throughout the year. A highlight of 2016 was the Year 12 Ball. The theme this year was Star Wars and it was a spectacular occasion. Led by the amazing Mrs Sally John, the executive council and a massive army of parents transformed Gibney Hall into an intergalactic world. The students had an amazing time dancing under the spaceships and spotting all the Star Wars characters and scenes.

conclusion of their time at Trinity. The TOBA Breakfast, Final Assembly and Graduation Mass and Dinner were fitting events to celebrate the graduation of this special group of young men. None of this could have been achieved without a fantastic group of teachers. This cohort's Pastoral Care Group teachers have been an amazing group of staff who truly care and have helped all students over their time at Trinity.

The group became involved in many service experiences over their time at the College and have sought out opportunities to serve through Edmund Rice Camps, Edmund Rice Outreach, the Red Cross Soup Patrol, Street Appeals, Street Soccer and the Winter Sleep Out. Close to half the year group were either Cadre members on the Quest retreat or Senior Ministers on the Becoming Brothers retreat, sharing their faith with the younger boys. The experiences on the Tabgha retreat, and on Kairos also strongly developed students’ sense of self and their personal faith journey. This group of young men has developed a reputation for being men of service, a group that gets involved and supports individual members and this has strengthened over the years and I hope this continues into the future. Culturally, the boys have been very involved in music, having, once again, won the Zenith Trophy for best overall school in the Catholic Performing Arts Festival. On Presentation Night we saw the impressive musical skills demonstrated by the students involved in the Aboriginal Cultural Program, GIG and Trinity Music. On the sporting field, the boys have been involved in all aspects of the PSA sporting program, but what was more impressive was how supportive the boys were of each other. The cheer squads at the swimming and athletics carnival were impressive to watch, with the TC Spirit entwining every person present and the energy shown to cheer on the boys in the rowing, basketball, volleyball and cross country was electric. The academic pursuits of this cohort cannot be ignored, with two students involved in the Lions Youth of the Year Awards, four students winning the International Mathematics Modelling Challenge and many academic awards being distributed at Presentation Night. We look forward to seeing all the students’ academic efforts rewarded in their final year results. On Tuesday 25 October, the Class of 2016, their families, friends and teachers came together to celebrate the
