This year has been a busy year in Italian with many exciting things happening.

Trinity was very fortunate to have an Italian language assistant during Term 2. Ms Elisa Beretta, from Crema in Lombardy, was hosted by Ms Eliza Knapman and the Robinson and Pownall families. She was a fantastic help in all areas of the Italian program and the senior students appreciated the help she gave them. Her assistance was organised by the West Australian Association of Teachers of Italian (WAATI) and the Università Cattolica di Milano.

Another fantastic addition to the Italian program this year was the hosting of exchange student Roberto Menta, by Blake George (10.2). Roberto spent two months at Trinity from June to August as part of an intercultural exchange program jointly organised by WAATI in Perth and Intercultura in Italy. Roberto enjoyed attending Trinity and welcomed the opportunity to learn about Australian culture while improving his English.

A new initiative in the Junior School was a weekly award called La Classe Italiana della Settimana which was awarded to the best class of the week. At the end of the year Mr Andrew Hayes’ Year 5 Green class took out the overall prize.

One of the highlights of the year was Italian Week in Week 4 of Term 4. There was a real buzz around the College during Italian Week. Highlights included the gelato van, wood-fired pizza van and the display in the Library of staff with Italian heritage. The Year 6 students thoroughly enjoyed making fresh pasta but by far the most impressive sight was the Ferrari and Maserati cars that were on display. A big thank you must go to Barbagallo Motors and Ferrari Formalwear in Cannington for their contributions which helped to make Italian Week such a success.

Finally, it is with great sadness that we farewell Mr Jean-Marc Rousset (’69) after 30 years of teaching at Trinity. He is affectionately known as JM by staff and students. To demonstrate the high esteem that the boys have for him, a group of Year 12s put forward a proposal for Room A209 to be renamed the Jean-Marc Rousset Language Centre in recognition of his great contribution to language teaching at Trinity. With the naming of this room it means JM will forever remain a part of our wonderful College.
