This has been an exceptional season and we have had wins in many areas; sporting, community and in the character displayed.

Mr Phil Jurjevich Director of Rowing

Although he didn’t get to row for us in Term 1, Matteo Sandrelli, chose to come to Trinity College (from Italy), for rowing and has added to the senior group. He is an example of a young man with enormous self-drive and he gives himself no excuses. He has been a great role model, an extremely hard worker and has set the standard for what our senior rowers have achieved. Matteo won two gold and silver medals in the NSW State Championships. He has achieved a lot, shared a lot and can possibly take home a lot more. Thank you Matteo!

This year we also celebrate three Trinity Old Boys being selected for the Rio Olympics with Rhys Grant (‘04) Josh Hicks (‘08) and Dave Watts (‘09) all being selected — well done!

We have taken major steps forward, thanks to the generosity of the parents and the Old Boys. With the licensing rules changing so that boat trailers lost their exemptions, two families (requesting anonymity), stepped up significantly with donations and the community as a whole joined in. Because of this we were able to purchase the new trailer, necessary to function with a club of our size. In addition to this the Old Boys joined in and have leased a bay at Champion Lakes for the next five seasons. These two additions have added greatly to how we function and are evidence for the boys of what a team really is. The Old Boys and the parents are our secret weapon. Thank you Peter, Brett and all involved!

With these great examples of community, generosity and hard work all around them, the boys knuckled down and had an amazing season. To this point one of the most successful by any school, at any period of competition. Most schools have never had a clean sweep of the Year 9s (great work Catriona, coaches and boys), a clean sweep of the Year 10s (well done Sam, coaches and boys) a win in the 4th VIII and 1st VIII and seconds and thirds in the 2nds and 3rds (well done all senior coaches under Liam and Paul).

Excellent camaraderie and team work from all of the coaches as well as the logistics and support for the program by Mr Mark Bozich. The next wave also looks sensational with Mr Mike O’Hanlon and Mr Shane Fry running the Year 8s, with three time world champion and Olympian, Ms Amber Bradley, Mr Mike Slack-Smith and Mr Roland Nelson training them hard with the body weight circuits. We have also had significant winners that pass unnoticed. As well as our captains, I acknowledge Nicholas Sumich (12.7), Damien Pisano (10.4), John Pisano (12.6), Jason Landon (8.2), Zachary Hayward (10.2), Ted Lane (8.4), Daniel Barrie (11.1), Luke Dyson (11.4), Joshua Morcombe (11.3), Quinn Jago (11.3), David Slater (11.3), Julian Ye (12.6), Mitchell Muscat (12.4), Rowan Frankowiak (8.2), Samuel Keenan (10.1), Will Hogan (10.5), Eric Bonney (8.5), Joseph Ricci (8.6), Andrew Le (11.2), Matthew Dwyer (11.3), Tylar Tran (8.2), Jeremy Hansen (10.4) and Sam Reid (12.5) who have all done the things that needed doing without seeking acknowledgement. That is what makes a great team — doing what you can because you see it needs doing not because you will get a reward! At the January camp, when the boys ran the oval, in Indian/alligator file running, my six-year-old son and nine-year-old daughter were guided, protected and encouraged by all the boys. Andrew Le gave my son the oar and everyone helped him to run the whole way — that’s what they do!

We have a special team! Thank you coaches, parents, all staff and especially our rowers who have bravely explored their capacity and looked out for each other. I’m looking forward to 2017!
