The PL Duffy Library Resource Centre The PL Duffy Library in the Senior School is not only a quiet refuge for our community to devour books but it is also an active space that offers numerous co-curricular opportunities and events for our students. With particular highlights this year including hatching 11 chickens, regular gaming days as well as John Madd the Magician and the Reverend Toddy dazzling the crowds with their magic and side show performances. BOOK WEEK The theme for the Children’s Book Council of Australia Book Week was Australia! Story Country and we continued our tradition of dedicating a whole week to celebrating our love of books. During Book Week we awarded the winners of the Brother Gerry Faulkner Literary Competition with prizes and, like most events in the library, a morning tea. The winner and all the high quality entrants are congratulated on their participation. The winners were: SENIOR SCHOOL

JUNIOR SCHOOL Winner: Drift’n Round the Corner by Joel Carcich (5G) Honourable Mention: The Beauty of Nature by Branson May (5W), Life by Nathan Tobin (5W), My Story by Matthew Ryan (4B) During Book Week, West Australian author and illustrator, James Foley, spent a number of days hosting workshops and sharing his experiences as an author and illustrator with students from Years 7–10. Amongst other insights he explained the process of developing the zombie bunny character from the Children’s book My Dead Bunny. This discussion proved very humorous and informative as his bunny illustrations developed over time. He also spent two lunch times helping students produce their own zombie clay models. Students also participated in a Design a Book Mark competition. The winning designs have been printed and are in circulation. A big thank you goes to all the boys who submitted designs. The 2016 Book Mark Designers are George Yip (12.8), Mathieu Mai (10.8), Jacob Mangan (9.1), Luke Grattoggi (8.4), Pavel Misiun (8.3), Rory Charles (7.2), Taylor Van Vliet (6B,) James Pampacos (6B), Ted Smith (5G), Harrison Watkins (5G) and Matthew Ryan (4B).
