Trinity/Mercedes USA Music Tour On the recent Trinity/Mercedes tour to Los Angeles and New York, music students in the Trinity/Mercedes Wind Orchestra, String Ensemble and the Trinity Senior Chorale were involved in combined workshops and concerts with three American high schools, Loyola Marymount University, a performance at Universal Studios and a music theatre workshop with members of the cast from The Lion King. We also sang at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Los Angeles and St Ephram’s in New York and attended a concert of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra in the Walt Disney Concert Hall in LA. All these performances were a build up to the World Strides Heritage Music Festival for secondary schools in New York where we were awarded several honours. The Trinity/ Mercedes Wind Orchestra received third place in their category and a Silver Award. The Senior Chorale achieved a Gold Award and first place in their category and the Trinity/ Mercedes String Ensemble achieved a Gold Award and first place in their category, the Outstanding Orchestra Award and the Adjudicator’s Award. By having three ensembles in the festival we were also eligible for the Festival Sweepstakes Award, which we were lucky enough to also win. Two of our students were also selected for solo awards based on their work within their ensemble. Congratulations go to Joshua Adams (11.4) (voice) and Kayvan Gharbi (cello) for achieving these solo awards.

Congratulations to all staff and students on such an outstanding tour where everyone performed to the best of their ability and learnt a lot about quality music making.
Performing Arts Festival for Catholic Schools and Colleges Congratulations to all students and staff involved in the Performing Arts Festival for Catholic Schools and Colleges. Special mentions go to the music ensembles that were the outstanding group in their respective sections. The Trinity/Mercedes Wind Orchestra was the recipient of the Concert Band Shield, the Trinity/Mercedes String Orchestra the recipient of the Instrumental Ensemble shield and the Trinity Senior Chorale the Sacred Music and Secondary Choir shields. All three of these ensembles also performed at the final concert held at the Perth Concert Hall on Monday 16 September. Trinity also featured in the Play-offs for the solo instrumental and duet sections. In all, close to 400 boys participated in music, dance and drama items in the Festival. Trinity’s success in the festival is in large part due to the participation of many boys who are willing to be involved in the performing arts. A list of the Honourable Mentions and Certificates of Merit awarded to our boys is included in this annual. The shield winners and many honourable mentions have enabled Trinity to be awarded the Zenith prize for most outstanding school in the festival for the tenth consecutive year. This is a major achievement for the boys who have shown such dedication to the performing arts. Congratulations also go to James Newcombe (10.1) and Kayvan Gharbi (9.6) for earning keyboard and string instrument scholarships respectively. Dr Robert Braham Director of Music
