Timothy Throssell (12.4) Vice Captain of the Athletics Team
Mr Stephen Leahy (’78) Director of Sport
Commencing 48 hours after the final winter fixture was played, the short four week season was the wettest in many years and made training even more challenging. The tough conditions did not discourage about 130 boys from attending training which is a testament to their character and the famed TC Spirit. With Mann Oval waterlogged for much of the season, the College Age Championships were cancelled as no suitable alternate venue was available, and the Age Champions were determined based on the results of the Tri Meet held under lights at the WA Athletics Stadium. Winners of the respective age groups from open division down to U/13 were: Timothy Throssell (12.4), Nixon Hamlet (11.4), Isaac Curtis (10.7), Tamba Lebbie (9.1), Samuel Throssell (8.2) and Michael Le (7.7). Our performance at the Tri Meet was encouraging and the possibility of a top three result at the Inters became an achievable goal as the team moved into the last week of training.
The Trinity athletics team finished in third position behind Scotch College and Aquinas College at the PSA Inters. The team continued its climb back up the ladder scoring 1529 points compared with the 1385 points scored in 2012 and almost matching the 1595 points in 2010 when we last won the Inters. The team finished only 49 points behind Aquinas although the gap to Scotch was considerably bigger. Mention needs to be made at this point of the outstanding performance by team Vice Captain Timothy Throssell (12.4) who competed in seven individual A division events amassing 101 points as well as running in the Open 4 x 100m relay. It was pleasing to see that in four of the six age groups, a Trinity athlete was the leading points scorer from any school with Michael Le (7.7) (U/13), Tamba Lebbie (9.1) (U/15), Nixon Hamlet (11.4) (U/17) and Timothy Throssell (12.4) (Open) all being leading points scorers. Other highlights included the U/15 age group being the best performed in that age group and the hurdlers (143 points), high jumpers (142 points) and shot putters (141 points) topping their respective disciplines. Congratulations to Liam Martin (7.5) who broke the U/13 PSA shot put record with a throw of 11.9 metres.

Timothy Ludovinco (7.3)

Recognition must also be made of the efforts of all the reserves who pushed their peers onto better performances. Although these boys didn’t get onto the track on Inters day, they remain a very important part of the Trinity athletics team.
In conclusion, I would like to acknowledge the great contribution of the athletes, the coaches and the ground staff who all made such an effort to give the team an opportunity to achieve the result it did. Although the team did not achieve its goal of regaining the Alcock Shield, the momentum developed over the previous two years has been built upon and hopefully this can continue into 2014.
