Finally the Year 12s – Nicholas Brown (12.5) was fantastic, winning five individual races (100 and 200 division freestyle, division 1 backstroke, division 1 butterfly and division 2 breastroke). Between him and Liam Pardini (12.4), it is hard to find a better combination. It was great to see these boys end their Trinity swimming career with some success.

The atmosphere on pool deck was outstanding and much more animated than in previous years. It was great to see the boys enjoying themselves as a team and being led by some fantastic young men (Noah Harris (12.2), Finlay Koenig-Luck (12.2), Simon Nicoli (12.5), Joshua Zekulich (12.5) all come to mind).

Eventually Trinity finished fourth. The boys were very proud of their efforts – and rightfully so. They had improved their point score by over 200 from 2012 and achieved an unusually high personal best count. I would like to thank all those who gave support to the 2013 campaign. Basil Psanadakis, who stepped into the manager’s role and immediately instituted a state of the art communication system, the coaches Siobhan Wilkins, Taylor Colton (’09), Jakeb Norman (’09), Bill Smith (’12), James Drewett (’12) and the parent body, without you this season would not have been anywhere near as successful. I would also like to thank Vic and Maschelle Pardini for their enormous support of swimming at TC over the past ten years.

Mr Geoffrey Jamieson 1st VIII Tennis Coach

At the start of the 2013 season, the 1st team had a quiet confidence about the challenge ahead. We had encouraging results from the Term 4 competition in 2012 and felt that with the same dedicated effort, anything was possible. The season eventually showed that the Trinity team of 2013 went very close to claiming the Corr Cup. If we had been able to secure one more victory Trinity would have been joint holders of the cup.

Coming so close to the prize came about due to the attitude displayed by team members. As a group, they were prepared to train hard, listen to advice and never surrender when on the court. Five regular team members are Year 12 students and while we will not have their services next year their fine example has shown the way ahead for the younger team members.

Special mention is made of Benjamin Dallinger (12.4). He has been a member of the 1st team from Year 8 and has won the Trinity College Tennis Award as our best player for four successive years. This is only matched by our professional tennis coach, Brendan Malarkey (‘01), when he was a student at the College. Benjamin has clearly been one of the best-ever tennis players in the PSA.

I acknowledge the contributions of the following people. Firstly to Brendan Malarkey for his continued effort and interest in coaching at Trinity College. To Aldo Marsegaglia, Karen Antoniazzi and Michael Hadfield for their support in general and the preparation of morning teas. To Aldo and Tracey Marsegaglia for their generous donation of a pie warmer for the preparation of morning tea. Finally to Benjamin Dallinger (12.4) and Adrian Marsegaglia (12.4) for their leadership throughout the season in the position of captain and Vice Captain respectively.

In January 2013, 20 students travelled to Melbourne for the tennis tour. Whilst the students were able to take in the many sights and shopping available in Melbourne, they were also required to train every morning in the gym and then on the tennis court. The students also competed in a three day tennis tournament at Dingley. This tournament was part of the junior tennis circuit and proved to be a tough but enjoyable competition. The last two days of the tour were spent at the Australian Open. This again proved to be the highlight of the tour when we were able to see the best tennis players in the world in action. I would like to thank Mr Paul Presser and Mrs Sandy Jamieson for their support on this tour.
