Year 8 Book Club
At the beginning of the year Bindy Hammond began a Year 8 Book Club that met every fortnight at recess. The boys shared a delicious morning tea provided by Mrs Hammond and then discussed the books they had read over the two weeks. The club became very popular, starting with four students and increased to 20 by the end of the year – an impressive and sustained reading effort from all the participants.
Usage of Library and Library Resources
In 2013 an average of 30 classes per week, booked into the Library for Reading sessions, research and general class work. There have been a total of 210 research sessions and 277 reading sessions booked this year. A total of 183 print items (fiction and non-fiction) per week were borrowed. Our eBooks and eAudiobooks have been heavily borrowed since the BorrowBox launch date in July 2013 until November 2013, with a total of 222 users in the Junior School and Senior School.
Thank You
I would like to thank the library staff: Teacher Librarian, and new to the team, Bindy Hammond, Emma McLevie and Jena McDowall for their dedication and commitment this year in making the library a welcoming, vibrant and dynamic place to visit. Their tireless effort in creating outstanding displays for everyone in the community to enjoy and learn from is very much appreciated. They are an inspiration to work with.

Mr Geoffrey Jamieson Head of Mathematics
We seem to be faced with continual change in education. This year we have had some staff members involved in the development of the National Curriculum Courses for Year 11 and Year 12. The courses are put together from a national perspective, and each individual state is able to make minor changes, up to 15% of the course, to suit their individual preferences. Each state is also responsible for all assessment practices and so the WA version is also now being completed. These courses will begin for Year 11 students in 2015. While this is happening we have been able to consolidate all our current courses from Year 7 to Year 12
Mathematics Week was again celebrated in fine style. Two particular highlights this year were, firstly, the race around the College grounds following clues given in QR (Quick Response) codes. Students were legitimately able to use their phones at school to scan and read the QR codes. The other activity of particular note involved students trying to fold pieces of paper in half more than the accepted maximum of seven times. Some groups of students were able to easily exceed this getting ten folds.
This year our Year 7 students were able to enjoy the hands-on experience of problem-solving through a visit by World of Maths. This proved to be very popular.
Professor Lou Caccetta from Curtin University spent some time with our top Year 10 students. He talked about what Curtin University had to offer and then set some challenging problems for the students to tackle. He also made himself available to all students during lunch time to answer questions about Curtin University and had other challenging questions for students to ponder.
Mr Richard Trend (’69) will finish his teaching career at the end of this year. We wish him all the best in his retirement and thank him for his long involvement with Trinity College which also includes being a parent of sons who attended Trinity College.
The Mathematics Department is able to offer our students the opportunity to be involved in a number of competitions and these results are below. Australian Mathematics Competition
