Mr Brendan Chapman Coach 1st VI Volleyball
The Trinity College Volleyball Club continues to enjoy wonderful success both on and off the court as a result of the tremendous support from the Volleyball community. I thank all the family members, students and Old Boys who have supported the Club by various means over the past 12 months. The Club arguably is in the best position that it has ever been in, with the initiatives driven by the Volleyball Committee and families we have provided a promising outlook for the Club’s future. Coupled with two generous donations from Atlas and the Murphy Construction Group, this has given the Club the financial freedom to provide greater support, resources and experiences for students such as the Albany Development Camp and the Melbourne Volleyball Tour to the Australian Volleyball Schools Cup. As with many years, the community spirit and record attendance at events such as the Annual Awards Dinner and Saturday morning home games continues to be a barometer of the health of our Club and the benchmark for the remaining PSA competition. The success experienced off the court has directly translated into success on the court with our teams experiencing considerable success at many levels.
In 2013, our Year 7s were lucky enough to be under the tutorage of Mr John Overton, Mr John Riccardi, Mr Jack Dawes (’12) and Ms Elise Kukulka. One of the keys to success for our senior teams is the integral development that occurs in their foundation years. The encouraging environment of our Year 7 program is progressed nicely through the Middle School years, as these students work to achieve a greater understanding of the sport and acquire the skills necessary for a faster and more complex style of play. I thank the following Old Boys, Tim Mettam (’09), Sam Mettam (’10) and Dylan Tarbett (’11) for the outstanding assistance they provide for our Years 8 and 9 teams in conjunction with Ms Claudia Swensen, Ms Beth Parkinson and Mr David Ceccarelli. The highlight for the Middle School program was when our Year 8 team became the State Champions at the WA Volleyball Schools Cup. Whilst each team member took home a gold medal, three members of the team were selected in the state All Star team. Congratulations to Michael Lenzo (8.1), Leon Formato (8.6) and Nicholas Montero (8.4). Nicholas was also voted as the Most Valuable Player for his age group. With continued discipline and focus, there is a very exciting future in store for this age group. The Year 10 Volleyball program continues to make valuable progress under the guidance of Mr Bobby Emmanuel and Mr Dylan Tarbett (’11). Whilst the teams experienced a mixed bags of results, the players were process driven rather than focusing on wins and losses, an essential philosophy if these players wish to be successful in their senior years. The talent in the 10A team was diluted slightly with Mitchell Bristow Stagg (10.6) being a worthy addition to the College’s 1st team rather than playing in his own age group. This scenario actually provided many opportunities for other players and has resulted in a very competitive team of players for when they progress to 1st team level.
Once again our senior volleyball teams, our 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th VI teams enjoyed outstanding seasons. Not only did our 3rd and 4th VI teams experience many victories, the students developed a strong sense of camaraderie and humour under the guidance of Ms Tanya Vranjes and Ms Rita Basilio which ensured a very enjoyable season. Mr Craig Adams and his 2nd VI team proved invincible and must be congratulated on an outstanding season. The depth of talent and quest of individuals wishing to force their way into the 1sts team aided significantly to the productive culture of the 1st and 2nd VI teams.

Trinity supporters cheer at the final game
The members our 1st VI built on the disappointment of narrowly losing the Brother Carrigg Shield in 2012 to winning the Shield back in 2013. Whilst the season finished in a three way tie for the Shield, the team led by Captain Peter Fitzgerald (12.1) and Vice-Captain Brayden Keizer (should be immensely proud of what they achieved over the course of the season. The team’s endeavour and commitment to fulfil their goals set early on in the preseason was testament to the calibre of the young men in this team. I would like to acknowledge the enormous contribution made by Mr Andrew Lillywhite (’08) to the 1st VI program.
I would like to congratulate Nick Butler, Nicholas Fabriziani and Brayden Keizer who were selected to attend the Australian Junior Volleyball Camp in December of 2012. At the conclusion of the camp, Nick and Brayden earned the prestigious honour of being selected in the Australian Youth Volleyball Team. Nicholas and Brayden have since toured internationally with this team and have future opportunities on the near horizon. I also congratulate Daniel Bendotti, Mitchell Bristow-Stagg, Nick Butler and Matthew Murphy on their selection and outstanding performance in the Under 17 State Volleyball Team whilst I am very impressed by the larger number of students who have decided to advance their volleyball development in the Western Australian Volleyball League.
I am sure that the overwhelming success that has been exhibited on and off the court will translate into greater achievement on the court for many years to come. With the efforts of so many generous people in our community contributing to the culture of our Club, I look forward to a very bright future ahead of us.
