Mr Rod Rainer 1st XI Cricket Coach
Year 7 Cricket
The 7As had a roller-coaster season with many matches going down to the wire. We started off slow with the boys getting to know each other. However once the team gelled and the game plan formed we were unbeaten after the break, defeating Hale and Aquinas.
I must commend the boys on the intensity and focus they brought to each and every training session. This commitment to each other was the key to the quick turn around mid-season.
Matthew Gerrans’ (7.6) catch in the outfield and Jesse Messere’s great knock against Hale, Sean Fidock’s 3 wicket haul against Guildford Grammar and the massive innings from Harry Conlin (7.5) (to hit four off his first ball against Aquinas on the last ball of innings to allow us a win by two) have been highlights of a fantastic season. There was even a shock marriage before the Hale game! Although, this is a story for another time.
Gentleman, we wish you the best for the future.

7B Cricket
The 7B boys managed to finish the season with an impressive record of four wins and two losses. They showed a great eagerness to learn and improve their game which culminated in a great display of cricket in the last game of the season against rivals, Aquinas. We started off the season recording a tight win against Guildford with the tail end holding together to chase down the target with three balls remaining in the game. The boys made it two from two the next week after a relatively easy win against Scotch with notably batting performances to Tom Jansen (7.7) and David Cain (7.1). The next week brought our first loss of the season to Christ Church followed by a win to Wesley with Joseph Dodo-Balu (7.4) tearing through the Wesley batting line-up. The next week saw a sizeable loss to Hale with the team going in well under-manned. This brought the team to the most anticipated match of the season with this game being many of the boys first ever game against Aquinas. We managed to restrict them to just 26 thanks to so some tight bowling and great catches by Tom Jansen and Fraser Moore (7.3). David Cain, Josh Nixon (7.1) formed a great partnership setting us up for a 30 point victory. Thank you for a great season gentlemen. Good luck next season boys.
Mr Leighton Taylor Coach
7C Cricket
The 7Cs had a tough season taking on year 8s and 9s for the majority of their matches. The dedication and eagerness demonstrated by such a young squad was inspiring. Each training session began and ended with a group of keen faces listening intently to all coaches. The team battled against injury, sickness and squad changes to week in week out take on the competition and rise to the challenge. They were a shining example of the TC spirit. William Gilbert (7.8) brought a never say die attitude to proceedings and Toby Robertson (7.2) was there to lead the charge every time. It must also be mentioned that Jaime Kinninmont (7.3) and Samuel Peirce (7.3) were stand out batters with multiple retirements; often being our best defence against the bigger faster opposition. Finally, Jacob Del Casale (7.3) (took a whopping five catches and a run out against Hale in a game which became the highpoint of the season. A well-earned victory against the only other 7 team in the competition. Boys you have done us all proud.
Mr Matt Goes Coach
Year 8 Cricket
8A Cricket
The 8A Cricket Team were a very competitive side in Term 1. It was particularly pleasing to see the progress that the team made throughout the season. This was a result of the hard work and commitment all members of the squad showed throughout the campaign.
With the bat there was significant improvement for the boys. This was led by Sam D’Souza (8.6) who could always be relied on to make runs. Ben Gianatti’s (8.6) 47 against Aquinas was full of class and James Torre (8.7) showed his potential with 41 against Christ Church. Joseph Costa (8.3) also hit form late in the season with consecutive 30s.
Bowling was definitely our strength restricting most teams to under 90 runs. Max Fry (8.6) (8 wickets) was the pick of our bowlers consistently keeping it tight while taking wickets at the same time. Will Starkie (7 wickets) regularly got us off to a good start with early wickets but the stand out performance with the ball was Joseph Costa’s 4/18 vs Christ Church.
Well done Gents!!
Mr Michael Murphy Coach
8B Cricket
It was a great honour to be involved in the 8B cricket team of 2013. We had an outstanding group of guys who were all keen to represent Trinity cricket. Throughout the season we had our highs and lows but everyone in the team improved their skills. The team won all three of our games at home and lost our three away fixtures.
The teams best performance will the bat came against a very strong Aquinas team. It was pleasing to see a number of partnerships which led to our total of 99. No doubt the most exciting match of the season was against Wesley. The side batted and bowled well and managed to restrict them to a total of 90. This match went down to the wire with two runs to win off the last delivery. Jack Barclay (8.3) calmly took strike and managed to get the two runs to get us over the line.
Overall the 8B cricket season was great and we had a blast. I would like to thank Zac Hooper (8.2) on helping out with the captaincy and special thanks must go to Mr Montagu who helped us throughout the year to improve our cricket skills and guide us to victory.

Year 9 Cricket
9A Cricket
At the start of the season the squad shared a common goal in developing as individual players through the team growing and getting stronger. Players maintained this objective throughout trainings and matches where they understood that this season in reality was all about preparing them for the rigors and demands of senior cricket and hopefully the 1st XI.
The boys were ecstatic when, by the conclusion of all fixtures, they had topped the PSA table which was a great reward for their supreme efforts put in during training and as a collective during games.
The 9As only lost one game all season in a very tight and rain affected affair at Christ Church. As the season progressed the boys upped the gears to comprehensively defeat Hale and Aquinas. The latter performance in their final game was my highlight of the season where, after a clinical performance with the bat, the bowling and fielding was of a very high standard, particularly for Year 9 level. Strike bowlers Eoghan Mc Elwee (9.6), Jordan Alvaro (9.1) and Benjamin Davies (9.3) were unplayable and left their opponents in disarray. The side was ably led by wicket keeper Tom Leishman (9.5) who not only knew how to win a coin toss (5 from 6) but was also excellent with the gloves and in providing the team with some quality batting at the top of the order.
All batsmen in fact played their part but Kai Hickey in particular was a revelation this season. Notable for being ‘the finisher’, Kai was outstanding in his ability to build partnerships with the middle order and tail. Jordan Monastra (9.5) was very accurate and deceptive with the ball in bowling very economically which allowed him to build up pressure for the team and collect 11 wickets at an average of 7.91 along the way.
I would like to extend a huge thanks at this time to Steve Leishman (father of Tom) for his assistance with scoring and match statistics.
Mr Andrew Jenkin Coach
9B Cricket
The 2013 season will be remembered as a successful and enjoyable one for the members of the 9B team. Victories against Guildford, Aquinas, Wesley and Scotch helped make the season one to relish. Some of the memorable moments included Callum Lovegrove’s (9.1) 43 in the last game of the year, Carl Fasolo’s (9.5) outstanding efforts in the field contributing to a number of run outs and Nathan Yukich’s (9.2) efforts with the ball. What was most pleasing from a coach’s point of view was the spirit in which each player approached all aspects of the season. To ensure that each player was given opportunities to bat up the order and bowl a few overs, boys were rotated through various positions both on the field and in the batting order.
I commend our Captains Luke McPherson (9.3) and Matthew John (9.2) for ensuring that all members of the team had opportunities to contribute and improve their skills as cricketers. I wish all the boys in this team well for the future.
Mr Chris Allanson Coach
Senior Cricket
10A Cricket
The 10a Cricket Team had an excellent season, winning four games and losing two. This was a superb effort, especially compared to how the side has performed in previous years. After an impressive win in Term 4, 2012 over the previously unbeaten Aquinas College, the side had renewed confidence and a strong belief in their skills, that they took into the Term 1 season where comprehensive victories over Guildford, Hale, Christ Church and Wesley set the side up for a final showdown against the arch enemy Aquinas to determine top spot. An outstanding innings by Darius D’Silva (10.1) in which he carried his bat for almost 50 overs ensured the side posted a defendable score, however a lack of discipline with the ball, in particular in the first 10 overs ensured Aquinas won the game and secured top spot.
Whilst the side didn’t always play their best cricket, the most pleasing aspect of the season was the ability of individuals to demonstrate resilience and offer something later in the game, whether it be a second bowling spell after disappointing with the first or taking a catch after missing out with the bat. With some excellent fast and spin bowling options and strong batting depth, the side is very well placed to complement the current Year 11s and challenge for the Darlot Cup next year and beyond. Finally a big thank you must go to all the parents who assisted with providing lunches and afternoon tea throughout the season.
Mr David Hankin Coach
3rd XI Cricket
With great enthusiasm, the squad of the thirds cricket approached each match with much anticipation of success. The season was highlighted by two victories against Aquinas and Hale. The Aquinas victory saw an inspirational batting and fielding performance by many members, highlighting the depth of talent in the squad, however it was the victory against Hale that many of the boys will remember. Having to chase down a target of 211 off 30 overs, our boys with true TC spirit set their minds to the task and won the match on the final ball of the game. Truly a team effort that really highlighted the approach our boys had to the season, being do your best, enjoy the game and always play the game with a high level of sportsmanship. 2nd XI Cricket
Trinity Cricket’s 2nd XI had a very successful campaign dating back to the start of Term 4. The side consistently applied a great deal of pressure on the opposition and players in the 1st team with strong and dominant performances by the team and individuals. These performances led to well-deserved promotions for some players into the Darlot side. Michael Bell (11.2) was extremely consistent all summer accumulating four half- centuries earning him the batting award, while his ground fielding and catching in the outfield also meant he took out the fielding award. Andrew Bottega (through consistent fourth term runs also earned a 1st XI call up. While the side was very fortunate to have the services of Rohan Campbell (12.7) all season leading the bowling attack well and also providing a lot of top order runs. Cory Dugan’s (12.1) fantastic double against Wesley in first term was a standout, not only did he take 5 for 30, but with the side in deep trouble at 6 for 20 he got us over the line with an excellent 80.
A mention must go to Nathan Volk (12.5) for providing solid starts at the top of the order on a consistent basis. The future of Trinity cricket looks in strong hands with great performances from numerous Year 11s all season and I am hoping that they can all push for positions in the 1st XI next season. To the graduating Year 12s, congratulations for your efforts this season, I have thoroughly enjoyed coaching all of you and I hope to see you go on with your cricket after school.
Mr Matt Birrell Coach

1st XI Cricket
St Joseph’s College Nudgee and Gregory Terrace Tour Matches – January 2013 Trinity College, assisted by Aquinas College, hosted St Joseph’s College Nudgee and St Joseph’s College Gregory Terrace from Brisbane. Games were arranged in both two day Darlot Cup format and one day limited overs format familiar to the Queensland schools.
The visiting schools played a quality brand of cricket which really tested the Trinity 1st XI. This was great practice for our boys and provided a wakeup call after a successful Newson Cup season. It sent a very clear message as to what is required in order to be successful in the Darlot Cup competition. Frank James’ 4 wickets for 34 runs versus Nudgee College in a score of 310 by the visitors was a great effort. Liam Purdy (11.1) showed glimpses of what he is capable of with a score of 70 not out versus Churchie Grammar School.
It was a great five days of match practice for our players and should have steeled us for the contest ahead.
Darlot Cup
This season can be summed up as one of missed opportunity. After being in winning positions in four games, we were only able to achieve a victory in one game, versus Wesley College. Jon Stapleton (12.1) made a fine 94 after Trinity College dismissed Wesley for 132. Wyatt Gordon (12.2) took five wickets for 22 runs to lead a commanding bowling performance. Two matches ended in draws after being in strong positions. It is important that our batsmen learn to turn good scores of 60 into match winning scores of three figures.
Fraser Hay (12.2), as Captain, led the side astutely as well as contributing 222 runs and four wickets in a solid all round performance.
Corey Evans (11.2) was very good at the top of the order contributing two half centuries and providing some backbone to our batting in a number of games. Cooper Isailovic (11.3) with 10 dismissals, 9 catches and 1 stumping, made a valuable contribution as wicketkeeper.
Wyatt Gordon (12.2) made a significant contribution to the bowling with 15 wickets at 18 apiece. He was well supported by Thomas Hunt (12.3) and Frank James (11.4) who each took eight wickets.
My thanks to outgoing members of the committee for their contribution to Trinity cricket and the great effort by those involved in the preparation and presentation of meals throughout the season.
