Science and Engineering Challenge

Thirty three Year 9 students were entered into the Science and Engineering Challenge competition held at Curtin University in September this year. Students were selected from both Science and Engineering Systems classes to represent the College. They were divided into teams of four and given practical problem-solving exercises to complete, using scientific and engineering principles. After ending up in last place at the first break the boys rallied together and put in a supreme effort to win the competition on the day. This is the first time Trinity has won this competition since entering and all boys are congratulated on this excellent effort.

Zen Vakil wins First Robotics Challenge (FRC)

Curtin University invited Engineering Studies student Zen Vakil (12.1) to be a team member in an international competition to design and build a robot. Zen attended the Engineering Faculty for two evenings per week for six months with a group of high school students who were being mentored by fourth year Curtin Engineering students. The team worked together to build and program a robot to perform prescribed tasks under strict rules and time limits.

They travelled to Sydney in June for the competition with ten other teams from around Australia and ended up proud winners after a nail-biting final round. Congratulations to Zen and the team on their success in their first entry into this competition.

Co2 Model Dragster Championships

Year 9 students, Thomas Cavanagh (9.5) and Zeke Okely (9.7) competed at the state championships of the model car racers which was held in July at the Claremont Showgrounds. They designed and manufactured model racing cars which used Co2 pressurised gas canisters to drive them at speeds reaching almost 100 km/hour. Both boys finished in the top ten placed cars and are congratulated on their excellent results.
