Drama It has been wonderful to look back at the year that was. Drama at Trinity took big steps with some very satisfying results.

It was a busy start to the year preparing for the Dance Drama Showcase and Catholic Performing Arts Festival. The Dance Drama evening showcased work from the Year 8 elective, Drama Club and the Catholic Performing Arts Year 10 students. This was the students’ first chance to perform to the wider College community. It was a lot of fun and demonstrated the theatrical talent that exists at Trinity. In August, eight Year 10 students performed in the scripted drama section at the Catholic Performing Arts Festival. Our one act comedy performance, which had the audience laughing from beginning to end, received an honourable mention. This was an exceptional effort from the Year 10 students and an outstanding acknowledgement of their hard work.
The next phase for drama is offering the subject for Years 11 and 12 WACE. In 2014 the College will have a class of Year 11 students undertaking WACE Drama, moving on to Year 12 the following year and having the subject count toward their ATAR score. A special mention must go out to Elise Kukulka and Beth Parkinson for their invaluable time and effort this year. If 2013 provided a glimpse of what is to come, then 2014 indeed looks exciting. The elective programs from Years 8-10 improved this year having students covering topics such as improvisation, one act plays, theatre sports, melodrama, masking, comedy, script writing, short films and physical theatre. It is great to see the progression these programs now demonstrate, allowing students to move forward in drama year by year. In November, the College had another Drama Showcase. Pieces from the Year 9 elective, short films from the Year 10 elective and one act plays from Drama Club were performed. The evening was successful and enjoyable: it is always a thrill to see students perform to a live audience, getting that ‘theatre buzz’.
