“This is what the Lord requires of you: To act justly, To love tenderly, And to walk humbly with God.”

The Mission of Campus Ministry We, Campus Ministry at Trinity College, as part of the Body of Christ, are called to glorify God in all aspects of our lives. We are called to create and foster an environment where all can develop an understanding and awareness of and a personal relationship with God, who dwells in and around our neighbour and us. In this environment we strive to provide opportunities for spiritual growth and the building of community. Through our worship, prayer, service, study and reflection and even our leisure activities, we reach out to our campus community, the greater Perth community and the world. Within the Trinity community, we hope to engender a commitment to life-long spiritual growth, to realize the deepening of a love relationship with God and to instil an understanding of the interconnectedness of our human family, a family characterized by mercy and divine justice, by peace, love and joy.

In our busy lives it is important to make time to stop and reflect on how God is present with us every day. Here at Trinity we prioritise the importance of this in our commitment to our retreat programs at the College where students take important leadership roles. We invite senior students to volunteer for key leadership roles. Early in the year, 66 Year 12s became mentors in the Becoming Brothers retreat for Year 7 students, guiding them through the retreat experience and accompanied them during the year, becoming real ‘big brothers’. Another group of 20 Year 12s became Cadre, or leaders for the Quest Retreat with the responsibility of training 66 Year 11 students to be Peer Ministers for the Year 8s. There were 110 Year 12 students who participated enthusiastically in the three Kairos retreats for the Class of 2013. These retreats were led by their peers in the activities and reflections, except for Kairos #33 which was led by students from the Class of 2012. The Year 12s took another day out of their busy schedule to reflect on God in their lives in the Tabgha Retreat. The Year 11s followed up their week of Christian service by having a one day Encounter retreat to reflect on how they met Jesus in the people they reached out to. The Year 10s pondered on how the Risen Jesus walks with them in the Emmaus Retreat. The Year 9s experienced a walking meditation on how Jesus calls them in their lives in the Galilee retreat, where the teachers in each of the seven groups were assisted by Old Boys who shared from their experiences. Twenty six students also displayed faith leadership by volunteering to be Special Ministers of the Eucharist and at each Eucharistic celebration students were very keen to volunteer as altar servers and readers and to help with music and PowerPoint presentations. These experiences can only happen because of the generosity of staff members who sacrifice their own time and time with their families to accompany our students on their faith journey. I thank them for their continuing generosity. While these events were happening another nine students and three staff were preparing to go on the Trinity Pilgrimage through India, by participating in weekly meetings and a three day retreat to help focus on what the Pilgrimage means. Our motto in Campus Ministry is: “This is what the Lord requires of you: to act justly, to love tenderly and to walk humbly with God.” In the programs we run with students we challenge them and ourselves to live this out in our daily lives.
