Year 6 White Mr Tony Maxfield Year 6 White
Wow, what a year! Another amazing year. Firstly I would like to thank Mr Andrew Hayes for looking after 6 White while I was on long service leave in Term 1. It was great to get back in Term 2 and begin to get to know my new class. It was nice to have a few familiar faces from my 5 Green class from 2012. With many of the boys scheduled to receive the sacrament of Confirmation we took time to learn about the sacrament ritual, Pentecost and the significance of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit and how we can use them in our lives today. Term 2 was certainly a busy term. The highlight of Term 3 was our Kalgoorlie Tour. Seventy eight students, 34 parents and four staff departed East Perth Rail Terminal at 7am Monday morning for a week of discovery and learning in the unique arid goldfield’s setting. The camp was an ideal way to complement our Western Australian history studies in Society and Environment. We viewed many items and gained an understanding of the development of our state through mining and the many pioneers that contributed to this development. The camp also served as an excellent social medium for the boys, living and sharing together for a week without the comforts of home and family. It was an excellent experience for all who attended and there were some very weary people when we arrived back in Perth at 10pm Friday night. In Term 4 the highlight was visiting and meeting the residents and carers of the Second Avenue Aged Care Facility in Mt Lawley for Christian service. On our first visit we met many of the residents and carers. The boys had prepared some ‘get to know you’ cards for the residents and we performed some songs that we had prepared. Some boys treated the residents to tunes played on their musical instruments. Before we knew it the morning was over so we bid them farewell. We are planning a Christmas themed visit for the residents later in the term to share some carol singing and Christmas spirit.

Below is a message we received from Julie, the Activities and Lifestyle coordinator at Second Avenue after our first visit.
Hi Tony, Just a quick thank you for bringing your boys in this week! They are a credit to you and your school and I am again surprised by their quick acceptance of the sometimes confronting issues that our residents have to live with. As usual our residents were thrilled with the performances and are still talking about the boys’ singing and playing. I overheard some of them telling staff who were not present on the day how polite the boys were. Thank you again, Julie Martin Second Avenue Aged Care Facility
