Year Eleven Year 11
2
008 has again been a very successful time for our year group with many enriching and diverse experiences. Students matured as they continued on their journey of developing into adults. From the start of the year many have realised that Mr Barry McKenna their secondary schooling is Head of Year 11 fast coming to an end and life choices about a career post Trinity College have to be given serious thought. A large majority of our students recognised that it was time to establish sound study patterns in preparation for Year 12. In Year 11, Faith Education continued to be a very positive experience. Students’ faith was strengthened by participating in the Religious Education program and Year Group Mass. Opportunities for new faith experiences were offered with the Cadre Peer Mentoring Program and a week of Christian Service where each student participated. These were programs designed to put their faith into action. As a follow-up to Christian Service each class was involved in the Encounters Retreat Program which explained the social justice of Christian Service. The feedback from all involved again showed that these programs are of significant value, carrying on the Edmund Rice tradition of helping others. On a sad note, with the passing of our much loved Chaplain, Fr Michael McMahon, many of the boys came to realise how important our faith is. The College truly lost a “Man for Others” yet his spirit lives on in the many lives he influenced.
Academic and cultural excellence continued to be the major focus. Many Year 11 students were proud to be involved in the Catholic Schools Performing Arts Festival which culminated in the College winning the Zenith Award, a fitting reward for their efforts. Sport also featured as a major part of the students’ lives, with the group contributing to the enormous success of the College. As is the tradition, sport gave many of the students a great way of meeting others in a competitive environment and experience what they have come to know as the “TC spirit”. On the social scene, Trinity had several functions during the year including a river cruise with Mercedes College and a social in Gibney Hall. Both occasions were times of great fun and enjoyment, with the boys continuing to improve their social skills in preparation for next year when they will attend the Year 12 Ball. Year 11 students showed their leadership skills with the running of Un-Fair Day in Term 4. I would like to thank each of the student representatives for assisting their classes and the rest of the Senior School in the organisation of this event which raised over $8000. This money was taken by the pilgrims to India and was greatly appreciated by the India Missions. In conclusion, I would like to thank the Year 11 PCG teachers for their pastoral care of the students. Their guidance and support of the students has shown their sincere care and commitment. Year 12 promises to be an exciting year and I wish all students continued success. Mr Barry McKenna Head of Year 11
