Year 10
2008 was an excellent year in academia for Year 10 students. For many boys entrance into the Senior School encouraged students to succeed in their studies, and standards consequently soared to inspiring new heights in both the sciences and humanities.
Mr John Montagu Head of Year 10 Fierce competition amongst members of the cohort served only to intensify the pursuit of academic distinction, impressing both peers and teachers. Perhaps the simplest means of gauging the accomplishments of the year group is through the acknowledgement of prizes presented to particular boys. Students were recognised for their talents in the fields of science (specifically chemistry), mathematics, public speaking and geography through participation in State and national competitions. However, the appreciation of Distinctions and High Distinctions can so easily overshadow the efforts of most students. Without the glitter of a certificate or prize at Presentation Night, many boys exceeded their own expectations and the expectations of their teachers simply through applying themselves to their studies and doing their best. Such students deserve the highest academic praise. On this firm academic foundation it is anticipated that the year group will excel in their scholastic pursuits in Years 11 and 12.
Adrian Maydwell Year 10 Sport
Year 10 sport brought about outstanding achievements and selection in representative sides. Term 1 saw five boys representing 1st teams. Sam Mettam made the 1st VI Volleyball team; Sam also received the great honour of playing for his State in Volleyball. Patrick Banks made the 1st V Basketball team. Three students were selected for the 1st VII Waterpolo team; Liam Burke, Luke Pardini and Mitchell Zekulich.
Winter sport not only saw 1st team representation, but also a great display of skill and sportsmanship for which all the lads should be congratulated. Some boys who should be commended on outstanding achievement include Luke Randazzo, Marc De Francesch and Robert Del Borrello who all competed in the victorious 1st XI Soccer team.
James Cumming and Luke Comiskey proved to be role models in Track & Field. This high standard in sport was continued in outside events with students such as Patrick Banks who played for the Western Australia Basketball Team and Fraser McInnes who made the top 30 in Western Australia for football.
The concluding term has seen numerous Year 10s participate and make excellent contributions in 1st teams. One of the highlights for the year was the Righton triplets, Oliver, William and Jack, competing for Trinity in the 1st VI Volleyball team. Oliver and William also joined teammate Sam Mettam playing for the WA State team. We can be assured that a strong future lies ahead for Trinity sport.
