Year 6 Blue
6 Blue, Throughout the Year
This year was the first time that I have been in Mr Hamer’s class and it has been an enjoyable experience from the start of the year to the finish. We went to Kalgoorlie, the Superpit, and the Perth Mint, have been underground, constructed a marble timer and made our Confirmation which was a big part of the year.
Since we were the first Year 6 class to be part of the celebration of Confirmation I felt anxious and honoured. In Kalgoorlie it was a very intriguing experience because it was the first time many of us went to Kalgoorlie, not to mention underground! We also went to the Superpit which is a huge and amazing mine. The marble timer construction was a very unique and frustrating experiment. It was difficult at the start for my partner Nicholas Marciano and I when we were trying to get the marble to run between a certain space of time. It has been a fantastic and fun year which all of us enjoyed!

Marble Timers
In Term 2 and Term 3 Ryan Somers and I made our marble timers. We had to make a marble timer out of recycled materials so that a marble of any size could run through the pathway without falling off. Some of our problems were lack of materials such as wood, not enough toilet rolls and heaps of people were stealing marbles. We used wood for the base and so the marble timer wouldn’t fall over. We also used toilet rolls for the pathway which led the marble to the end and to a bell because the marble had to indicate when it was finished. When we showed the whole class our marble timer at the end the marble wouldn’t hit the bell so we were very disappointed. The good thing about it was that we got amazing results

A Little Election
In Term 3 Mr Hamer sat us down on the mat to decide what to do for our assembly in week 3. We came to a conclusion; we would read a humorous book called ‘A Little Election’. The next day we sat down and volunteered for parts. The play was about Miss Wyatt reading a book to our class and getting interrupted by students and teachers while reading. I was chosen to play Mrs Wyatt. We spent the next two weeks rehearsing and on the morning of the assembly we had a dress rehearsal. The costumes were astonishing.

Balloon Cars
In Term 2 in Design and Technology, Mr Hamer told us that we were going to make our own balloon cars. Everyone was excited. Mr Hamer told us that we had to make them out of everyday materials. Most of us used cereal boxes for the base and counters for wheels. We worked on them for three to four weeks, on the last day we had the race. I tested my balloon car the day before we raced and it went about three meters, but on the day it just wouldn’t go. I was a bit annoyed, but I was looking forward to watching the other cars race. It wasn’t a real race though and Miss Dove measured how long it went. The top three in order were Jason Nguyen, Tyler Kavanagh, [Nicholas Butler raced for him because Tyler was away] and then Chris Parnham. It was a great day!

Camp Kelly
In Term 2 Mr Hamer took 6 Blue to Camp Kelly in Dwellingup for a Confirmation Retreat. Camp Kelly was lots of fun especially when we went flat water rafting. The water was freezing but fortunately we had the one, the only, Mr Hamer on our team. After a few games and tips we got into the sponge fight. I got one right in the nose by Frank James who was on the other raft. Then I saw a sponge in the water, I soaked it up and threw it as hard as I could and got Frank back. Camp Kelly was an excellent retreat and I had lots of fun, not just me, everyone enjoyed it!
Thomas Rigoll My Year 6 Experience
This has been one of my favourite years at Trinity College. Year 6 have accomplished so much in many ways. Science has been educational and the most enjoyable.
In Term 1 we made our own worm farms in a bottle. We were taught that they are very good for your garden and the environment. In Term 2 we started our balloon cars. It was a challenging experience but it was fun. From the middle of Term 2 until the middle of Term 3 we made our marble timers. It was a very long but enjoyable procedure. In Term 3 we made a two and a half meter tall Aztec Pyramid. That was great fun as we used paper machè to cover it. Earlier that term we made a real size Emperor Penguin. It was just about as tall as some of my class mates!
If I had a chance to have Mr Hamer as my teacher again I would because it has been such a tremendous year. Hopefully next year I will have a year just a great as this.

Building the Aztec Pyramid
Building the Aztec pyramid was heaps of fun, sure it was a bit of hard work but it all paid off in the end. The Aztec pyramid was made out of cardboard boxes so it wasn’t very strong. The first thing we had to do was sticky tape every one of the boxes together to hold it in place. We then smothered it in paper machè which took a while. We built the top of the pyramid then stuck the top half on the bottom half and waited for it to dry. A few days later the fun part came, painting it. It looked brilliant after it was finished and I can say it was a big success.

Year 6 Green Another year has flown by. The year was also very special for the boys in Year 6 because they were confirmed.
The boys have been busy with many varied learning experiences such as the Confirmation Retreat, various excursions and of course, our very memorable trip to Kalgoorlie. These events can be best summed up by the boys themselves.

Highlights of Year 6 are the Year 6 trip to Kalgoorlie and actually prospecting for gold. Also our visit to the Perth Mint and seeing all the shiny gold, having Mr Dean as our teacher and the Lightning Carnival. I enjoyed the Sports and Swimming Carnivals because I am really good at both of them.
