Student Roll Call

Mrs Lea Wilson

Head of Year 12 On Monday 4th February the Class of 2008 began their final year as Trinity College students. Year 12 is without a doubt the most challenging and demanding year for our students. This is the culmination of their 12 years of schooling and gives them the responsibility of being the leaders of the student body.

The Class of 2008 has risen to this challenge. As a year group they proved to be responsible, thoughtful and mature. They worked as a group and took on the role of school leaders with determination and enthusiasm.

As with every year there are highs and lows, and this year was no exception. Clearly the Year 12 Ball was one of the highs. Once again Eileen Lane and many of the Year 12 students and their parents put in countless hours transforming Gibney Hall into the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. The result as usual was outstanding.

The lowest point of this year was definitely the passing of Fr Michael McMahon. It is difficult to express how much he will be missed. The Year 12 student body in particular felt the loss more than some of the other groups as they had known him the longest and had more contact with him over the years.

In 2008 we were successful in winning the Hamer Cup in Rowing, the Lawe Davies Cup in Soccer and the Moyes Trophy in Cross Country. Congratulations to all students who participated in these teams, but also to all the other young men who spent hours training and playing in their respective sports throughout the year. The main reason that Trinity College is so successful in sport is the hours that all the teams and coaches put in to make all of the teams as strong as they can be.

Tours have been a major part of this year with a Music tour of China, Hockey tour of Malaysia, Football tour of Melbourne and the Cross Country tour of the Czech Republic. The experiences that the boys gain from such tours help to widen their horizons and give them an extensive view of the world at large. Personally I would like to thank all the students who helped me in my role as Head of Year 12 in Second Semester and let you all know that the “Leavers’ Jumpers” have all arrived.

On behalf of the Year 12 cohort of 2008 I would like to thank all the PCG and classroom teachers, the parents and other community members who helped our boys through 2008. The help and commitment from all of these people goes towards moulding young men who we are proud to have had as Trinity College Graduates.

I cannot emphasise enough what an outstanding group of young gentlemen this year group has been. The Prefect body, especially Josh Hicks and Matt Cowie, have led by example all year as have many of the other students. They have shown strength and leadership across all four of the pillars that this College espouses and have shown a glimpse of the potential that they have to be future leaders in our society.

I wish the Class of 2008 well in all that they do in the future and would like to remind them to always remember where they come from and that the values and friendships they have gained from this College should go with them always.

Mrs Lea Wilson Head of Year 12

All of the Year 12s take part in the TABGHA Retreat and many others participated in KAIROS, Cadre, Special Ministers of the Eucharist and performed hours of community service. This commitment by both the College and the students to promote the ideal of “Men for Others” has a profound effect on the young men of Trinity and hopefully gives them a sense of wanting to serve the community even after they leave the College.
