The 2008 rugby season demonstrated that after some previously fairly ordinary seasons, the team has now matured and shows potential for future success. With all teams from Year 8 to the 1st XV experiencing more success than the preceding season and with the level

Mr Geraint Lewis 1st XV Coach of participation in rugby increasing, this should place Trinity Rugby in a strong position in upcoming seasons.

A particular highlight of the 1st XV season was the match against our big rivals Aquinas. We dominated for large parts of the game but could not put them to the sword and eventually narrowly won the game 15 – 8. During the second half of this match we scored our “try of the season”. It started in our own half and went through ten phases of play, we kept the ball for 1 minute and 25 seconds and eleven of the fifteen players touched the ball before the try was scored by Richard Sorriba in the corner. This was the style of rugby we talked about in the players meeting at the start of the season and what we strived for every week and thankfully it all came together against Aquinas. The other highlight was our final game against Guildford; after a disastrous start when we were 17 – 0 down we managed to show true Trinity Spirit and come back to win 27 – 24. This was by far the most exciting game of the season and illustrates how far the boys have come this season. The win was especially significant for the Year 12s as they finished the season with some respectability and can erase the memories of previous years.

If we look towards the future, we could well be heading back to the glory days when Trinity Rugby was feared within the PSA. The current Year 6 and Year 7 team in the Junior School went through the PSA season undefeated. The Years 8s and 9s have shown that they can compete with the best and next year’s seniors, the current Year 10s and 11s, have the potential and the desire to make it into that top three in 2009. With an exciting pre-season tour to Sydney in April next year there is no reason why the seniors can’t continue to move forward and achieve an even more successful season for Trinity Rugby. All of these achievements could not have been accomplished without the help of many within the Trinity Rugby community. I would like to thank all the parents who give up their time transporting their boys to training and matches. Thanks must also be extended to the parents for their off field support, organising sausage sizzles, washing the 1st XV kit and many general tasks that make things run smoothly for the boys.

Your support is much appreciated and we could not achieve what we have without you. I would like to wish the Year 12 boys all the very best for the future, it was a pleasure coaching them. They have taken on new ideas and structures and have supported the younger boys in the team superbly. They have shown great resolve and character and have come through with their heads held high. They have definitely got the respect back for Trinity Rugby; it is now up to the rest of us to carry on the improvement.

I look forward to consolidating the improvements and success of this season as we continue to strive to put Trinity Rugby back at the top of the PSA.
