English and Debating
English
Trinity College entered two senior teams in the Western Australian Debating League in 2008. The Year 11 Team finished the season with a positive win/loss ratio despite often competing against older students, while the Year 12 Team finished with a four Mr Anthony Byrne Head of English and LOTE win, one loss record, which didn’t prove to be enough to make it to the semi-final stage. Senior students Ben Tomasi, Joshua Hicks, Gerard Rosario and Stuart Love are to be congratulated for their sustained commitment to debating during their time at Trinity College. In addition to debating, Trinity was represented in a number of public speaking competitions. One particular Year 10 student, Adrian Maydwell, has represented the College with distinction having made the State final of the Rotary Public Speaking competition which will be conducted in 2009. We wish Adrian well in his bid to be the State representative.
The career of Eileen Lane is well documented in other pages of this Annual, however, I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely congratulate Eileen on her well deserved ‘retirement’. Eileen has given thirty plus years of service to the English Department in an outstanding career. Michael Mueller, Middle School Coordinator,

also leaves Trinity College this year to take up a position as the Head of English at Newman College in 2009. Michael is an outstanding educator and will be sorely missed, he is highly respected by both staff and students alike.
I thank the English Department for their efforts over the course of the year; it is a pleasure to work amongst a group of dedicated teachers who always have the best interests of their students at heart.
