Mr Rod Rainer

First XI Cricket Coach The season just gone has been one of mixed fortunes. Unfortunately the First team were unable to live up to expectations but to a certain extent this was due to a number of factors out of our control. Wesley College prepared thoroughly for the season and with the playing ability at their disposal proved to be worthy winners of the Darlot Cup.

The key word to take from the current Darlot Cup season is consistency. We played in bursts, some very good cricket, but then lapsed into periods of poor play. As a result we were unable to capitalise on opportunities and convert these to a positive result.

The highlight of the season was the match against Wesley College. Batting first Trinity posted a score of 302. It took a magnificent batting performance from Wesley, punctuated with one of the finest schoolboy innings from Mitchell Marsh, to chase down the score.

Congratulations to Travis Colyer (Captain) and Mitch Duncan (Vice Captain) who gave great service as leaders of the team.

The winner of the batting award for the First XI was Travis Colyer with 250 runs at 50:00, including a 119 against Wesley College and Jame DiCarlo won the bowling award with 15 wickets 18.87, including 8 for 40 versus Guildford Grammar.

Trinity’s Second XI cricket team had a solid 2007/08 season, winning two games and drawing two during the Newson Cup competition, and wining four and losing one during Term 1. A number of the boys produced some outstanding performances with centuries from Clayton Arnez (142), Simon Douglas (103), Jacob Holmes (100), Joel Janissen (103) and Damian Leipold (116). Jack McIver was the leading bowler with 16 wickets at 14 each, and Phil Roberts the best all-round performer with 264 runs at 33 and 7 wickets at 10.86.

The 9A/10A group had a great season winning two of three games in Term 4 and four of the six played in Term 1. There were some outstanding performances from this group. In 9A Oliver Mouchemore scored 127 not out and Tom Keeffe took 5 for 17, both vs Christ Church Grammar School. At 10A level Matt Leipold, 104 versus Scotch College and Kurt Penney, 101 versus Christ Church Grammar, played significant innings in winning performances. Many of the players in this group will go on to represent the College in First XI cricket.

The coaches of all teams are to be congratulated for their ongoing contribution to Trinity cricket. I would like to acknowledge the continuing hard work and support of Mr Graeme Porter, Mr David Hankin, Mr Martin Tobin, Mr Anthony Lunt and all the other coaches who have made such a significant contribution to Trinity cricket this season. The ground staff, headed by Ross Beatson, are to be congratulated also for their endeavours in providing us with the best playing conditions possible.

The cricket committee have been tremendously active this season with the catering in particular and I would like to acknowledge the efforts of the President Mr Chris Colyer and the Catering Manager Mrs Barbara Colyer. Thank you to all the parents who supported the cricket program in any way this year – your efforts are appreciated.

It would appear that with a large number of players from Year 11 being introduced to First XI cricket this season and with strong support from the Year 10 cricketers we can look forward to another exciting season in 2009. Once again my appreciation to all those involved in the cricket program for your efforts and we can all reflect on the season just completed in a positive light.
