History in the Making

The Class of 2008 was the last group that studied the old TEE course. This year has witnessed the introduction of the new courses of study. The Year 10 students studied course 1A ITA in Semester 1 and

Jean-Marc Rousset course 1B ITA in Semester Director of Italian 2. The Year 11 students studied Course 1A ITA in Semester 1 and course 2B ITA in Semester 2. The new courses demand a greater emphasis on the Italian culture. They also encourage students to look more into the history of Italian migration to Australia, a theme which touches the majority of our students. Early this year the Year 11 students went to the Migrant Memorial near Lake Vasto in East Perth to look closely at the history of migration to Western Australia.

I was very pleased to receive a visit from two Old Boys, Riccardo Carbone (Class of 2006) and Joseph Giorgio (Class of 2006), this year. Both Ric and Joseph are currently studying at Notre Dame University and hope to teach Italian in the future. I was very happy to be able to help them with some projects and I wish them the very best in their studies.

In regards to history, there is another milestone to be noted. I would like to thank Mrs Lisa Calabro for helping with the running of the Oral Examinations for quite a few years – I wish her well in her business venture.

I would finally like to thank Mr Casella for organising the traditional Year 9 lunch at Caffè Amaretto. The food was not only abundant but delicious and the service was excellent. Grazie!
