fter good wins during Term 4 over Hale and Aquinas schools, the 1st VIII Tennis Team looked forward to an eventful 2008 Corr Cup competition. The team this year was built around our top players in Wei Gen Ng and Kyle Mackin. These two boys had both played Mr Geoff Jamieson in the 1st VIII Team since 1st VIII Coach Year 8 and were expected to provide strong competition to the best from all other schools in the PSA. It was expected to be a very close competition this year with many schools as possible winners and that is exactly how it was, with quite a few upsets occurring. Unfortunately we had a poor first-up loss to Scotch followed by a loss to Christ Church by just three games and when we were washed out against Hale our season was over. Most players were disappointed by what could so easily have been a very different outcome for the season. With seven Year 12 students in this year’s 1st VIII team the rebuilding process will now happen in earnest for the next few years. We will now also begin this process with a new professional coach. Former Trinity College student Brendan Malarkey takes over from Ian Walker. Mr Walker has decided to finish all his tennis coaching commitments. His role in developing tennis players at Trinity over many years has been invaluable through his extensive knowledge and experience on the tennis court.

I look forward to the future with some optimism as the reports from the coaches for the 8A, 9A and 10A teams are very positive about attitudes and standards of play. Tennis Awards 1st VIII Tennis Most sets won Most improved Most tenacious
