utdoor Education continued to develop throughout 2008 and once again proved a very popular choice for students in their elective stream. The combination of high numbers and positive student attitudes gave all involved a feeling that Outdoor Education and its associated camps through 2008 were going to be very successful.
The Year 11 students set out on two separate five night expeditions off the coast of Dampier. Boys were required to navigate a course through the islands of the Dampier Archipelago, as well as enjoying the natural wonders of this fantastic part of Western Australia. These trips provided great memories for staff and students including Matthew Hunt’s mackerel which was soon to be deemed undersize.
Year 8 students have their first taste of Outdoor Education with mountain biking, fishing and camp cooking. These boys were also given the opportunity to demonstrate their skills on a one day mountain biking expedition through the John Forrest National Park. Congratulations to all boys who completed the ride. Other activities that Outdoor Education students were involved in included canoeing, sailing, wilderness first aid, abseiling, rock climbing and rope courses. Many of these skills were put into practice with extended overnight camps for students in Years 10, 11 and 12.
Our Year 12 cohort tackled the Mudda Biddi Trail for four nights on a mountain bike camp. This challenge required boys to be self-sufficient in terms of navigation, food and equipment. The camp successfully achieved its goal of developing cooperation, confidence and independence for these students. Congratulations to all students involved in Outdoor Education throughout 2008 for such a successful and enjoyable year. In 2008, Year 10 students were once again privileged to be given the chance to attend a three night adventure learning camp in Augusta. This camp consists of night caving, rock climbing, abseiling and hiking as well as learning about the environment and how to conserve it for others to enjoy.
A special thank you must be given to all staff involved in these expeditions and their dedication to Trinity’s comprehensive off campus commitments. Mr Brett Silver Outdoor Education Coordinator 189
