Mr Leo Murray Director of Campus Ministry

THE MISSION OF CAMPUS MINISTRY We, Campus Ministry at Trinity College, as part of the Body of Christ, are called to glorify God in all aspects of our lives. We are called to create and foster an environment where all can develop an understanding and awareness of and a personal relationship with God, who dwells in and around our neighbour and us. In this environment we strive to provide opportunities for spiritual growth and the building of community. Through our worship, prayer, service, study and reflection and even our leisure activities, we reach out to our campus community, the greater Perth community and the world. Within the Trinity community, we hope to engender a commitment to life-long spiritual growth, to realise the deepening of a love relationship with God and to instil an understanding of the interconnectedness of our human family, a family characterised by mercy and divine justice, by peace, love and joy.

e had a difficult start to 2008 with our beloved Fr Michael McMahon’s sickness and death. In the later part of the year I was very conscious of our human frailty with my mother’s illness and death. Both of them are examples for me of faith, hope and love in the way they lived their lives, generously giving of their time and energy to others.

While I was in Ireland with my original family, my brothers asked me about my work. I was very happy to be able to tell them that I love my job. It is a very special privilege to be able to spend time with young people who are discovering God’s love present in their lives – that is essentially what our retreat programs are about. In Campus Ministry we invite students to be open and honest in their search for God because it is only by being open and honest that their search will lead them to authentic responses. The students respond enthusiastically and generously by participating fully in the liturgies as Special Ministers of the Eucharist, altar servers, lectors, ushers and in Music Ministry. The students were inspiring in the way they gave of their time and energy in many different ways, including the Quest Retreat with Cadre (Year 12s training and guiding Year 11 Peer Ministers), Peer Ministers with Year 8 students, and the Year 8s in their food collection for St Vincent de Paul. Other Year 12 students put in hours in the preparation and running of the Kairos Retreats, making the Lord truly present by the way they witnessed to their faith. All the students thoroughly enjoyed their retreat experiences with Year 12 on Tabgha, Year 11 on Encounter, Year 10 on Emmaus, Year 9 on Galilee and Year 8 (along with students from Years 10, 11 and 12) on Quest. The highlight for students were the Kairos Retreats, the four day residential experience for volunteers from Year 12. Our Retreat programs would not happen without the inspiring contribution of all the staff at Trinity who give of themselves for the benefit of our students. I was very happy to be able to say to my brothers in Ireland that I could not think of better staff or students to work with. Mr Leo Murray Director of Campus Ministry
