Starting the engine Exhaust gases from the engine are a health hazard. Start the engine only in the open or in rooms equipped with an evacuation system for exhaust gases.
Do not turn the key-switch to position 2 (Fig. 2) while the engine is running, since this could damage the starter. Apply the parking brake with switch (87, Fig. 1). Indicator lamp (10, Fig. 3) lights up.
Fig. 2
• Turn the key in key-switch (73) to position 2. The engine starts. • Release the key. It returns to position 1. Warning lamps (2, 3, 5, 7) go out. Warning lamp (5) goes out after 45 seconds at the most. Let the engine idle for 3 to 5 minutes at about 1,000 RPM before using it under load.

• Set gearshift lever (82) to neutral; see “Gearshift lever – powershift transmission”. Set pedal (80, Fig. 1) or lever (83) to idling position. Turn key-switch (73, Fig. 2) to position I. All systems with test indicators on the instrument panel are tested. All LEDs (LED = light-emitting diode) light up and a warning tone is heard for three seconds. At the end of this test, all systems return to the normal mode of operation. In the case of an open circuit condition in the cable between a sensor and the instrument panel, the LED blinks and the warning tone can be heard for five seconds. IMPORTANT: If the main warning lamp (on the front console) blinks in operation and if the acoustic warning system sounds a continuous tone, stop the engine and shut it off to locate and rectify the cause of this problem.
