Battery location
The batteries are located on the right-hand side of the engine. The batteries (Fig. 1) are accessible after opening the engine hood and removing the step. The system voltage of 24 V is supplied by two 12 V batteries connected in series.
Shut off the engine before removing the batteries to prevent damage to the alternator and the regulator or to electronic modules. Turn the electrical system keyswitch to 0 and withdraw the key. Disconnect and reconnect the battery terminals in the described order. Disconnecting and reconnecting in the wrong order may result in shortcircuits.
• Switch off the main battery switch (positive lead interrupted) and remove the switch lever.
Battery removal
Fig. 1 1. Disconnect the negative terminal (Fig. 1) of the battery. 2. Remove the jumper cable between the batteries. 3. Disconnect the positive terminal of the battery. 4. Insulate the battery terminals. 5. Unscrew the battery holders (A, B, Fig. 2). 6. The batteries can now be removed from the baseplate.

Battery installation
Before installing the battery, clean the battery posts and the pole terminals down to the bright metal. 1. Install the new battery. 2. Refit the battery holder (A, B, Fig. 2) and tighten the screws. 3. Connect the pole terminal to the positive post (Fig. 1) of the battery and tighten the screw. 4. Re-install the jumper cable between the batteries and screw tight. 5. Connect the pole terminal to the negative post of the battery and screw tight. 6. Apply a special grease or acid-free vaseline to the battery posts and the pole terminals.
To prevent damage, do not use force when tightening the screws of the pole terminals.
Loose or corroded pole terminals will cause overloading of the alternator and the regulator.
